Saturday Cycle; Surly ECR = `Equine Companion Rig`

Saturday morning and a short but sweet workout on the bike in the Lammermuirs again with Francis and Tessa on the Endurance horses,

Yep... another big sky day!, though the clouds were zipping past today!...

We rode up from Stoneypath on the old road to Johnscleuch, it was blowing a hooly!, with the forecasted 45-50 mph gale it certainly felt like that strenght as i was blown off my bike stopping to open a gate!

I couldn't keep with the horses as i climbed into the gale, it took all my effort to keep going as the wind constantly tried to have me off, but cleaned the hill after the last gate-just!...

Quick breather up top of Clints Dod...

We were heading in a loop through Crystal Rig wind farm but first descended to the Whiteadder water at Johnscleuch...

Can you see it?, wee Grouse chick hiding in the heather, perfect camouflage!...

Along the water then up the steep rough pylon maintenance track to the wind farm...

Joining the route of the ancient Herring Road for a while i enjoyed the gale force tailwind assistance up the hill after  the steep hairpin bends, The ECR rolls easy over this stuff...

Over the moorland path...

And then i took off on the bike along the maintenance tracks when the wind was behind,  then would lean into it when side on!... i did some filming here with the Go Pro...

Across Dunbar Common on an ancient track to Deuchrie Edge...

Middle ages road sign... :)

The going here is good with the 29+ wheels rolling fast...

The coast soon came into view as we crested Deuchrie Edge to the descent to the farm and tarmac...

Great descent down to the old ruin house...

Marked as` Luck now` on the OS map...

Tarmac and soon back at the car.  Only 11 miles in 2 1/4 hours but a workout in that wind!...

Did not shoot much film as too busy staying upright in the gale!, so added some of the pics to some footage shot on the Go Pro,
Song is `Love on a Real Train` by Tangerine dream...

The ECR is riding perfect, and ready for next weekends Capital Trail,  with a 2 day distance of 283km - 175 miles,  and with 4800 meters of climbing it is going to be a tough challange for myself,
While many will be going flat out for the fastest time i will be happy to finish,
As they say in Horse Endurance `To Finish is to win`...

More soon...
