A wild Sunday on the coast!
Wild Gales again on Sunday morning here in the hood!,
Chainsawing firewood then seeing Francis home from Holland was the plan for Sunday, but i still had time first for an early quick hours ride again on the Pug from Aberlady out across the blowing sands of the Bay,
Parking the car in Aberlady i rode west out of the wind in the woods of the John Muir Way then winched side on into the gale around to the Crab Isle off of Green Craig island. Tide was not low enough to ford the Peffer at it`s estuary so rode through the rocks at Kilspindie- The chunky Sulry Nate tyres on the Pugsley allowed me to ride across the Mussel shell covered mud flats to a part i often can cross the Peffer with dry feet opposite the birdwatching hide.
It was just too windy and sand blowing waist deep to take out the compact camera out on the sands,i shot some film with the Go Pro after a 30 mph tailwind for the two miles across the sands! :)
Funny how the worst weather conditions for cycling encourage you to get out for a cycle when you have a Fatbike, and days like this an old cheap value fatbike is ideal, there is still paint left on the frame :)

Windy Saturday coast ride
30 mph gales made for a chosen route west to Gullane through the woods avoiding the blast of gale, then descended from Gullane Hill to the coast where i met the gang out riding to the subs, winched out there with them, then flew back along to Gullane and went for an ice cream before enjoying a tailwind assisted push back to North Berwick
On the return i found a mermaid washed ashore!, i set her free again in the sea ;)
Thanks for the ice cream Brian :)
And back home...

Minions!
Everyone needs a Minion!
I just got myself two! :)
Got some Maxxis 29 x 2.5 DHF skins for the Monkey for winter trails. The tyres are nice and bloated on the Rabbit Hole rims and plenty tyre/chain clearance (3x9 with Monkey Nuts fitted). rims are heli taped so will do them tubeless when i can find my valve conversion end thingy in the man-cave :)
Gimme some Skin!;
I always used to ride with Minion tyres at Trail centres and Downhill Uplift days at Innerliethen, good strong dependable tyres then have been. I hoped they would eventually bring out a wide 29er version. When i saw them i grabbed a pair, got a cheap price for them here; next day tyres.co.uk
I also have a new pair of 2.1 Maxxis High Rollers on the drop bar Monkey, they too are ideal for that bikes riding. Both bikes are now done at last!..
3" Surly Knard Tyre - Maxxis 2.5 on Rabbit Hole Rims size Comparison;
The 3" Surly Knard tyre on the left does not look that much bigger in this pic for comparison...
Though it it 5-8mm wider, and rides with more `cushioning` than the 2.5 Maxxis tyre...
But that was just bopping around the garden!, after sliding all over the place last week on that steep off camber descent i filmed on the bike with the old worn GEAX Gato tyres these new Minions will be a big improvement...
Not been out to try them yet this week so here is some other Minion film :)
