back at work today and some new goodies i orderd 2 weeks ago had been delivered at work last week...
all this bought with the petrol money saved cycling to work everyday through january..thats what im doing now...fuel money saved buys goodies for hobbies...
i got a good deal on a pair of WTB weirwolf lt 2.55 29er tyres from chain reaction cycles
also a 750ml plastic sealed container for tube and tools which fits a bottle cage...
this is for (ahem) river crossings on the pugsley this summer...still looking for a similar container to fit a pump in...
non cyclists reading this bear with me...mountainbikers are a bit fanatic about tyre choice...because there are so many makes, compounds and tread patterns to choose...
then all the different surfaces you can ride over in a days offroad riding nearly always makes the type you use a compromise...only sand riding is easy choice as only the big surly tyres!
...these tyres are the big fatties for 29ers...i wasnt going to buy them until i get the new rims from alaska but at the sale price of £20 the pair thats £30 saved...
which helped buy my alpkit bivvy bag...
these bags get good reviews for breathability and waterproofness and are a bargin at £33...will pack down even smaller inside my sleeping bag compression sack...
still to come is the australian army hoochie tarp from the ray mears website...
order the rims for the 29er from alaska next month and with the new WTB tyres will have the 29er how i want it...
out in the garage i stuck one on just to compare the width with the 2.25 maxxis ardent tyre which is 45mm on the outside treads with the 37mm halo rim...
the wtb is wider on the tread by only 2mm but below the side wall is alot wider which will give that bit `float` and i know gives a true 2.5 width on an uma 50mm rim as i seen a pic posted online...
also got a neat £15 abus lock bag that should go here under the top tube...
its a strong well made bag..,just like there locks...
turned round it makes a neat gas tank type frame bag...
the toptube straps are a bit long for the skinny steel surly frame so were cut down and the ends burned with a lighter to stop fraying...seat tube strap perfect around the headtube spacers...
with tools, tube, pump and water bottle on the bike it is ideal for carrying a couple of cereal bars and camera..just need to watch and not let the camera fall out opening with the zip now upsidedown and on the bottom of the bag...
some nice new stuff at good prices!...
Great bottle-NOTABOTTLE tool/tube holder. I need one as I often tape a tube to my frame and use my tall socks to house a took or a gel or ..or... hmm Where did you buy yours? And hey? What about all those other bikes in your space?????? Do they make it to the blog? I would love to see photos. :)Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteGreat Stuff! Would've luved to have had that bottle cage container 5 months ago when I took that giant staple in my tire. Love the upside down bag too. Reminds me of a fuel tank. rather fitting that you can stick some human fuel in there.
ReplyDeleteali: i got the container from chain reaction cycles in ireland, theres a link to there shop, they do 500ml & 750ml sizes...you could get an under seat bag for tubes and tools...
ReplyDeletecraigers: love it when you can find another use for something it wasnt really designed for!...
hows the winter out there?
There is also a tool container available from TACX.
ReplyDeleteThese containers are for sale empty or filled with a Tacx tool and Co2 inflator.

Great blog mate, never seen a bike like that befor but not realy a dedicated pedal man though.
ReplyDeleteBut I must admit im now tinkering with the idea of getting a decent bike and riding a bit more now.
jack;hi, look forward to reading your blog in the future too...
ReplyDeleteali; will do a klunker post soon on the unfinishrd ongoing progects and old bikes hanging up!
The Aussie Hooch thing is great, I have a US Marine equivalent from some swaps I did with the Yanks when I was in the Army. For some strange reason they had a love for British Army KF Shirts (wooly hairy ones). They are miles better than our issue Ponchos. You'll get some great use out of it mate.
ReplyDeleteI might be copying the tank top bag and the tyres.
ReplyDeleteThe 29x2.0 Mitchelin tyres i've fitted to my 29er are great; but I do feel as though I need a larger volume tyre on the front with having no suspension
clive; i didnt get away much camping last summer except for the 2 weeks hols so plan a few 1/2 nighters out locally on coast and hills this year...
ReplyDeletered bike; tank bags are handy for grabbing something on the move...i often take pics while still riding!...took a wee while for me to get used to fully ridgid bikes again...the big tyres do make it alot better...good deals at chain reaction this now...
Thank you for the nice bike photos. I especially like the cool bike carry bag in the front.
