4 days of storms finally broke today...you may have seen this here on the scottish news...tuesday at the harbour at my local town of north berwick...
we had strong winds off the north sea and high tides of 5.9 meters and combined the sea washed alot of the sailing dinghys out the esplanade into the harbour...trashing alot of them in the process...few of my friends boats are there-or were...
no cycling to work monday-wednesday for me!,we had over 2 inches of rain in 36 hours...alot of that sideways that was along the coast...
inland the hills got it as snow, multiple roads were closed with flooding and hill roads blocked with snow,my friend at penicuik,SW of edinburgh had knee deep wet snow over night, worst he has seen it there...glad i went to glentress now last saturday...
winter isnt over yet it seems...
i drove to haddington yesterday to pick up parts for work in the car and it was a blizzard on the local garlton hills...
what a difference today... it dawned sunny and though still a cold breeze the lovely views over to snow covered lammermuir hills could have been 8 weeks ago in january... but i bet its soaking wet snow and wouldnt be much fun to cycle in...
with the clocks moving forward last saturday night an hour it is now light until after 7.30pm so first of the midweek cycles of the year tonight (in daylight)... not on trails though after all the rain and a very high tide at 5 pm so i went a road ride on the workbike down to north berwick for 5pm to see the tide...
some of the coastal erosion from monday/tuesday...think i will see alot more at the weekend when out on the pugsley...
it was indeed a high tide but with a westerly breeze it was below the highest tide marks...
down at the harbour and the fisherman had the creels out the sea...
while the wall of the seabird centre had some damage the old harbour wall has stood for over a hundred years...see the wooden wedges between the stones to keep it all tight...
over on the esplanade were big rocks thrown over the sea wall...
while most wrecked dinghys are moved out of the esplanade now...this used to be the open air swimming pool.it closed in the late 1980`s...
alot of the dinghys are up above awaiting insurance companys to look at them...in the picture is my old workmate john who had 2 boats there..1 is written off, sailing is to him what cycling is to myself and he is gutted...
having my workbike with pannier and my courier bag it was up to the supermarket for supplies then a 5 mile cruise back home...it had turned out a nice evening...
spring with a touch of winter in the background...
so still winter like weather but now light until 8pm on a clear night...
Wow! That looks like one hell of a storm system that went through. Shame to see all the wreckage left in the aftermath, but hopefully nothing too bad. Love the shots with the snow covered hills in the background.
