Well it was once here in Britain.
Tonight its a chippy for me-that's a Haddock and chips to folk outside the UK!,
i can probably count on one hand the amount of fish suppers i have per year,
not that cheap a meal nowadays but it once was...
Fish was once one of the main diets of alot of the population of our country when the sea`s were full of them...cheap and nutritious and it was thought an endless supply for a coastal industry. Not so nowadays and according to the latest proposed Government fishing restrictions proposed it looks like there will be even fewer fisherman making a living from the sea...
I remember as a kid all the Harbours in East Lothian having fishing boats but even then in the 1980`s fishing was in decline,as was tourism, Though there have always been and still are lots of Victorian era coastal resorts to visit...And a little souvenir to remember the day from a little shop, i like a souvenir found on the coast...
Now our Harbours which our coastal towns were built around are filled mostly with just a few creel boats and pleasure boats...times change...
As does transport in Winter, a proper winter now adays and we grind to a halt in our cars...all in a hurry to get somewhere as fast as possible...
No side Railways now and mainlines struggle, back in 1963 the Railways kept on going...this is an amazing made film...
More snow is forecast here for the weekend, you may have it already...
Still theres still next year`s summer holidays to look forward to...
Why not visit Scotland?
WARNING; odd swear world...this is hilarious...
Maybe see you on the coast if your out enjoying our coastline this weekend...
Thanks for sharing these with us. The 'Visitors Guide to Scotland' gave me a good laugh..!

ReplyDeletehey C, about fishing...is it too complicated for a mere mortal to go and do some fishing?
I mean permissions and stuff...not talking about having a boat to go to.
I met a guy from Iceland once who ate raw Catfish, didnt taste as bad as the smell -:)
ReplyDeleteMartinsillo; anyone can seafish with a Rod from the coast or far as i know a wee boat, netting fish in numbers commercially is where there are restricrions in quantity and size,
