Overnight bike packing ride in the local Hillfoots...

Weekend again and we again did a 2 day cycle with an overnight camp, this time cycling from the backdoor up into the Hillfoots of the local Lammermuir Hills to camp at a quiet reservoir

I have added Alpkit bars to the Surly Wednesday - the same as G has on her Genesis and it allows a lot more room for cable routing with a front bag on...

Forecast was rain later that evening and into tomorrow but with just an overnight camp as long as we got set up before the rain came on then that's half the battle, so I also took a tarp to shelter under. We were soon rolling and passing some usual local sights...

Where we camped for the night the land is owned by the local Monastery...

Some paddle boarders were leaving when we arrived and we had the place to ourselves and set up the tent just before light rain showers came on...

Bringing the tarp turned out a good idea as we sat out under heavier showers...

Midges were out but G had brought her new box stove and sitting it on Molehill soil to not burn the ground soon had twigs gathered and lit it kept the midges away...

Being a wet evening it was getting dark by 9pm but we sat up a while until the hip flasks were empty...

Slept well we were up around 8am and soon had the tent packed away as the rain was light but steady and sat under the tarp cooking breakfast - porridge again in Bacofoil bags soaked over night and only needed a touch of hot water to be ready...

You can see here we left no damage to the grass having sat the small box stove on molehill soil...

While nearby you can seethe damage left by less responsible behaviour by other previous campers...

Good wee climb out to the road on cold legs but we were soon rolling home, taking in trails and tracks on two local Estates back to HQ...

A great night away with no driving, or other people!,

More soon...
