Yep that's the Jeep parked under the East Fortune Vulcan Bomber!, A Cold War Era Jeep next to an Iconic Cold War aircraft.
Last month when friends P and A were up on holiday we went for a drive in the Jeep across to Scotlands National Museum Of Flight here at East Fortune In East Lothian,
G had contacted the Museum to ask if we could get a picture under the Vulcan and the Museum said no problem and an arranged time and date was made and having bought entrance tickets online we were straight in and parked up under the Vulcan for pictures before parking at the regular car parking to take a walk around the museum,
Here is footage I found on YouTube of that day...
As you may know I used to live on the doorstep of the Airfield and from my old living room could just see the top of the Vulcan, It is a true fascinating part of Military Aviation history, and this one in particular is the very one that after taking part in a Bombing raid in the Falklands War had to do a detour return flight landing at Rio de Janeiro Airport, which caused a bit of a fuss!...
Mark Felton films on YouTube are superb and here he did a film on the Missing Vulcan, this very plane and the unreal mission they did...
Never again will a Vulcan Bomber ever take to the skies due to technical difficulties obtaining the needed parts and skilled mechanics to keep them flying safely...
And straight away I found another Jeep!
Another aviation icon...
Going supersonic..
Drinking Gin and Tonic...
Heading out across the Airfield to the next hanger past Airfield relics...
The Military Hanger is my favourite...
Top gun is an Hispano, what fired the large WW2 cartridges we pick up along the coastline...
With pictures done we parked up and headed into the Concorde hanger via the shop...
An ace day out with friends...
More soon...
The Vulcan Bombers were so cool looking, I was in the USAF and stationed at RAF Upper-Heyford, England we only got to one of the aircraft, made the B52's look butt ugly!! We were flying F-111-E Advarks back in the early to mid 1970's. Your Museum is really great looking and as usual the Jeep looks outstanding! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your Armageddon Pugsley and your jeep. Nice to see you got one at last. Do you have an email address I can contact?
