cold war fever
whilst im waiting on youtube uploads of a 3 part beachride i made today ive been googling around and found some new sites of interest for my growing cold war interest, but first off i found a trailer for one of my favourite films...
i have always liked zombie films but this has an urban exploration `after the cold war ` theme to it,
on the cold war theme check out this 1984 bbc docudrama `threads` trailer for a 12 part film all on youtube,a documentary on what would happen if there was a nucleur attack on the uk...
another post nuke strike film is `sound an alarm` from 1962...featuring the royal observatory corps, check out part 2 at 1min.25secs, its an roc bunker in use!!
i think the guy that had to go out and take the readings had got the short straw!...
heres a film of a restored roc post as they were when in use...
on a bigger scale heres a link to the restored rotor bunker near st andrews open to the public, one of 14 such bunkers constructed, they were in use until 1992 when the threat of soviet attack was abandoned with the collapse of the soviet union...
also im going up to make a film down in edinburghs abandoned cold war nuclear bunker under chirstorphine hill,it too a rotor bunker, its been done already on youtube...
but i want to go see for myself,i need to buy an abestos mask first because of the fire damage caused by vandals,i do however have the neeeded info from someone on how to access the usually unfilmed lowest floor via a ventaliation shaft as its stairwell has colasped as below the fire on the floor above, theres some great reports and pictures on lots of sites including here and on proberly the best urban exploration site ,with a great photo set here
this exellent film shows a restored rotor control bunker now a museum....
i think you would have been better off fried than survive a detonation!!
