surfs up
cycling to work this morning (thursday)i heard the roar of the sea as i approached work and could see a spray mist along the coast,a big swell has moved down from shetland bringing high tides and some big waves for the east coast,my workmate surfs and was explaining how a storm that has been ongoing a while creates these surf conditions,he headed by car round the point(west) of north berwick after work with board and wet suit,i headed home as fast as i could cycle, changed and grabbed the pugsley!,i was down on my nearest beach for 4pm after cycling the 3 miles `as the crow flys` through local woods...
so had an hour till dark so would do some short films,i filmed the nice track through links wood...
onto the coast and wasnt disappointed, there was some big surf...
its amazing to see the power of the sea...
pity there wasnt anyone out surfing it...
the surfers will be at a better break somewhere else i guessed,
theres 7 short bits of film on this post each between 1-2 minutes, only watch if you want to watch cycling along a beach on a surly pugsley!,mind you why would you be reading my blog if you werent interested in the coast and cycling!,
heres a film of the big swell...
there is a nice section of sandy singletrack from the point around above the beach with a good information sign...
i filmed riding along the singletrack path above the beach...
down on the beach the tide was high up and the going was soft, down to the granny ring and 2nd or 3rd most of the time, with the high tide i couldnt get round ravenscleuch cliff...
so had to push up the path behind to get round onto the beach again, the high tide was at the bottom of the dunes so i went up the dune having to push up halfway, great view from the top looking south...
and north...
i took the time to do a selftimer pic...
then filmed riding down the steep side of the dune..great fun!,
further along at the small group of dunes i once again rode halfway up then pushed and done another short but steep run down and filmed it,i wouldnt like to try that on a normal tyred bike...
down on the beach there was lots of foam blowing about from the waves breaking, and a real taste of salt in the air with the spray mist...
the weekend should be good along the coast with the swell there should be lots of shells and driftwood washed up around between aberlady and gullane, the sun had already set and there was a bit colour on the clouds out to sea in the east...
home through the woods with the HID light on and i was back home with the bike cleaned and gear in the washing machine for 6pm!,its great getting finished at 3pm and getting some daylight (and nighttime) riding done and still getting sat down for the night, ive always said winter aint that bad..
