Lowest tide of the year...
Sunday past was the Spring Equinox, and with Saturday evenings full moon the closest the moon has been to earth in 18 years that meant the lowest tides, 0.1 meters in the morning (8.30am here) and a 0.0m around 8pm Sunday evening...
So it was an early rise Sunday and back out to the beach from Dirleton by a great trail, devoid of any walkers at 8am so did a bit filming, not the most interesting film for most folk but sure the fatbike fans will like it, first we had the `Endo cam`- the camera mounted above the pugsleys Endomorph tyre, now its the `Larry cam`...
and with the newer design Larry providing better cornering grip this trail to the beach was ideal to film, i had to cut the film across the links at Yellowcraig as it took 9 minutes to reach the shoreline, that's a long time flat out on a pugsley!
but it shows how long some trails are,Why the song title?, well i did pump up the tyres a bit (18psi) for the 5 mile road ride to Dirleton...
Down across a massive beach with the low tide, i have not seen the coast as low here before...
And about 100 meters offshore was something i knew about but have never seen, the wreck of HMS Ludlow...
decommissioned and towed into the bay in 1945 the ship was used for aircraft rocket attack practice by aircrews stationed at RAF East Fortune...
The ship was originally the USS Stockton- a WW1 USA ship,
one of fifty US ships given to Britain in exchange for lease of Bases to the USA in the Atlantic...
Unfortunately it was sunk after the first rocket test attack!, later stripped for scrap not much remains but maybe worth a swim around with a snorkel (in warmer weather)...
You can read more info on the wreck, its history and the WW2 firing Range over on my other blog; No Through Road...
Riding east along Broadsands it was nice cycling beach i haven't ridden before, and a lot of exposed rocks changed the view...
Then around Point Gary and along the west beach into North Berwick Town and a view i have never seen, the tide completely out of North Berwick Harbour!...
Cool...
Ideal if you wanted to do some work to the underside of your boat!...
Spare Pugsley tyre?...
All the Harbour wall and fore shore could be seen...
Here wooden wedges in the sea wall to keep the stones locked tight...
View of the the east beach, the rocks all exposed...
Riding along the east beach and the town looked so far inland...
Dont think i will ever get bored of riding along the coast, just so much changing landscape to see...
Beautiful shots Coast-kid.
ReplyDeleteNice wee film too - and a great soundtrack for it!
Cheers....
Viva la Larry-Cam!
