Midweek coastal nightrides...
Loving the Autumn evenings now for midweek night rides.
Sunset is now around 6pm but it is not really dark on a clear evening until 7pm.
Tonight i returned to Gullane Hill and rode the exact same route as on Saturday but after sunset enclosed in darkness with just my lights for a view in front it was a totally different ride and experience.
Views are replaced with the distant glow of the streetlights of Edinburgh and Lieth Docks and a faint glow in the evening sky after sunset across the Firth of Forth Estuary on the hills in Fife...
And it was cold, a damp chilling air after what was a horrendous days weather with sideways rain, yet as always here on the coast with the free draining sand you would hardly know there had been a couple of inches of rainfall...
The last of the day visitors leave Gullane beach having no doubt enjoyed the clear evening after the days storm. After sunset the trails and tracks are empty and i love it when no one else is around...
Out to Gullane Point and the sky is filled with the views and sound of thousands of Pink Foot Geese coming into the Bay for the night after grazing on fields inland...
Waiting for the light to fade enough to switch on lights and spend an hour or so riding the criss cross sandy trails through the dunes and behind the tide line...
My wee camera works ok until the sun has disappeared then really struggles which is always the problem with night ride reports...
It was a lot darker than it looks in this picture but the light of the clear sky and flash give the impression of it not being lighting up time yet...
Strange on the beach at night as it is a lot harder to read whats in front of you than say on a trail with definition at the sides. a lot more light power is needed...
Huge bit of wood has been washed in since Saturday with the recent high tides...
The days high tide also left the sand very soft so glad to be on the Moonlander again. Off along the soft sandy singletrack through the dunes, not easy to read the terrain in the dark even with two Magicshine 872 lights on 3/4 beam power, but that's what makes night riding fun, it`s a different challenge...
Back down onto the coastline and along to Gullane Village...
Home for some dinner, but not Lobster tonight...
Some stunning shots there buddy! Looks bloomin cauld though!!!
