Midweek Cycle; Harvest cycle to the scene of a WW2 crash site...
Weather changes quickly here on the Scottish east coast, take this morning and a stunning dawn...
After work and i cycled to the garage to pick up the car and notice the clouds out in the Forth Estuary in the distance...
Not many fields left to harvest now. It was real muggy as i passed some harvesting...
Back home and changed and out on the Surly KramPug 29+ to ride harvested fields from Kingston Hill to Whitekirk Hill, and by now the sunshine was gone and the sky overcast as low cloud drifted in from the coast. Only 6pm and needed lights on to cross the roads!...
From NB Law i rode across east to the spot where in February 1940, An unexpected visitor arrived in North Berwick...
A German Luftwaffe Heinkel 111 was shot down by a RAF Spitfire from nearby Drem Airfield and crashed here...
The aircraft was towed to Drem then put on a lorry to Turnhouse Edinburgh and made airworthy and flown in the `RAFWAFFE` RAF 1426 Flight which evaluated capture enemy aircraft...
Dirleton Avenue..
You can read more about this aircraft on a previous blog post here; The North Berwick Heinkel
Another two stubble fields and another now gone local landmark...
The remains of a once huge Oak tree, how old was this when it died?, several hundred years old no doubt.
Must have seen a lot of local history pass by in it`s time being so near the ruins of what is believed to have been an Inn or Tavern called `Whitehall` as shown on the 1821 map of John Ainslie showing the old couch road of Becky`s Strip Byway...
Up to Whitekirk Hill and i can see in the distance Fenton Tower at Kingston where i cycled from, a short but fun cycle...
I shot some film with the Go Pro...
Song is `Nylon` by Phontaine...
