A scorching day with temps around 18 Celsius out the breeze, with a westerly breeze i went a cycle out to Gullane Point to get some cool onshore air after a busy and warm day on my feet strimming and doing other stuff,
The Reseve today has changed quite considerably, not only have the dunes in the top picture grown in height since WW2, but in my own lifetime i have memories of the high tide line right at the foot of the remains of this bird watching hide that i remember as a youngster sitting in when my father was counting migration Geese in the Autumn. A lagoon formed and sand bar that continues to curve round and it too now grows in height from blown sand stabilised with Marram grass...
As the path passes the nesting area now cordoned off you can see the logs and wood left behind from previous high tides now stranded as the point rises in height...
Out to the point and 5pm and place to myself...
Along the tide line and at 5.7 Meters the tine would be a high one and right in at the dunes in an hour, i got along the shore line just in time and onto the rocks at Gullane Point...
A loop around to below the cliffs and i rode back across the Reserve and back to the van...
