Thrift...
You know warmer weather is on the way when Thrift flowers on the coast, and it has indeed been a warm week,
Cycling on the coast is ace and fun, but it is nice to sometimes slow down a bit and explore a small area of coast on foot and take the time to soak up the amazing scenery here on the east coast and have a closer look around...
Sunday morning i went a walk with M and her hyper Cocker Spaniel Jake at Gullane and walked over the rocks below the cliffs...
In the rocks here is a cave recently reopened again by sand washed out that maybe was a fishermans store, or was once used for smuggling....
The cave was once widened by man as seen by the chisel marks on the walls...
And it`s entarance protected from the sea by a brick sided defence of some sorts...
Next door is the infamous named `Murder Hill`, not named because there was a murder, but from it`s use in the 1980`s by Scottish football teams who trained here on the once large steep energy sapping dune,
Today the slope is small having been reduced by recent coastal erosion from the previous winter storms...
M spied this bit of metal, i dropped it and picking it up a broken off lump revealed a name on this object that looks like a horse shoe but we don`t think is...
Any idea anyone what it once was?...
So much sand has been washed out below the dune on the shoreline here last winter...
Meanwhile Jake was enjoying a dip in the sea...
Along on Gullane sands exposed are concrete sections from a base for something, maybe from WW2, maybe from the beach huts once sited here...
This looks like warcrete, what we call remains of WW2 constructions, this probably broken up Anti Tank Blocks...
Big Blue Sky...
This here though is more recent, it was once the Disabled access path to the beach, actually not that old...
Here in this 180 pic you can see the path on the other side of a 8 foot high sand dune that has en crouched and blocked the path in around 10 years or so...
As these trees have also done to this sea view bench which shows how quickly the shore line is changing above the high tide line....
What else will be revealed by future winter storms as the sea rips out wind blown areas of coast along the high tide line?
Time will tell...
More soon...
