Wojtek Soldier Bear in Berwickshire

I met up with Chris and we drove the Jeeps across the Duns and parked up in Duns high street next to the statue of the Polish Army Soldier Bear Wojtek... an amazing true story of an orphaned brown bear the Polish soldiers adopted and who became famous and a member of the Regiment!

We then drove along to the site of Winfield Camp where after WW2 he lived at the camp with the Polish men before he went to live at Edinburgh Zoo...

Parked up in a wood near the camp where Wojtek was taken walks to go for a swim there are on trees claw marks on the Beech trees that are still visible after 80 years...

Many books have been written on the story of Wojtek and there is film of him on Youtube
Here is our day out visiting some Wojtek history...

And here on YouTube a documentary on the Soldier bear...

Winfield Airfield

While at Winfield we took a drive around the Perimeter of Winfield Airfield, apart from a control tower and a few buildings no much remains at this former WW2 Satellite airfield though there is a hand pulled fire fighting apparatus...

Here is another film on our visit to Winfield...

More soon...
