a walk on the coast....
no cycling this weekend to help clear up this head cold...ive had all week...
when saturday dawns with a sky as blue as this i wasnt gonna sit about indoors...
so went a walk where i wouldnt go cycling...
if you like coastal scenery then you will love this little gem of a place i visited today...if east lothian is the hidden gem of scenery then the county of berwickshire next door is the unexplored county...as in that so much of its countryside isnt featured in guide books etc...its coast is different to east lothian by its geology as it has the lammermuir hills meeting the north sea giving a more dark red sandstone clifftop scenario than the white sand beaches and bays of east lothian...
berwickshire is real quiet too...away from the coast in the merse is miles of short trails and old roads which can be connected to cycle or motorbike with out seeing another person all day nevermind any other tyre tracks...its the last retreat...
i will post some stuff from here now and then... but mostly im keeping it for myself...
an 8 mile drive from home east down the A1 to just over the east lothian border with berwickshire is a little harbour called cove... as its name suggests a secluded cove indeed whose clifftop cottages nearby once housed its fishermen...only 2 creel boats work out the harbour now...
from the carpark a track via some steps leads down to the harbour hidden from view...
the barometer was correct!... it was a crisp clear morning with a cold onshore breeze...
the memorial to the 1881 fishing disater...
down the track and a tunnel through the hillside which has storage tunnels now sealed off to the public and you emerge into the cove...
a fantastic view...
the red house is a holiday house...the stuff of dreams!...
return back up through the tunnel and the track goes round to the fishermans stores and sea wall...
returning up the track there is a clifftop trail east from the houses of cove along to pease bay...
the views over the harbour, the coastline and the north sea here today were superb...
on the horizon is coldingham moor where the lammermuir hills tumble into the sea at st abbs..a visit there soon too...
soon pease bay with its caravan park comes into view far below...pease bay is popular with surfers and a few were out today...
the path drops down through a glen to the road...
where i walked down to pease bay to walk up pease dean nature reserve which i will post in the next few days...
heres a film i did of the walk so far...
Nice little treasure you have there!!
