Sunset Cycle at Tyinghame, between the showers...

A real cold day starting with a frost then unforecasted heavy showers swept over all day with a biting cold onshore wind had me thinking there would be no cycling after work today.
With sunset now an hour earlier at 4.40pm for the next couple of weeks there will still be time on bright days for a quick beach ride before sunset as the daylight hours will soon shorten, straight from work at 3pm it was down to Tyninghame, a very high tide meant little beach to cycle and a detour to get around a swollen Peffer estuary with recent heavy rain, so i just rode the low dunes at Peffersands...

Just missing a passing heavy shower off shore with two rainbows i got some filming done before the shower turned inland and with the best of the sunset past as the sun sunk into the clouds i rode back to the van as the rain came on for several minutes in a heavy shower...

Once again away from the car parks of the coast at this time of year the coast is nearly deserted, and today there was no one here after a day of heavy showers swept across with a sharp cold wind,
Chose your timings right between showers and you squeeze in a wee cycle and some filming,

Lovely last 15 minutes of good light as i filmed...

Nearly done as as the rain clouds came across....

Always feel good to have made the most of the last daylight of a working day with a quick bike ride on the coast, esp with good light, working hours of the new job are so much better this year for post work cycling, esp in Spring and Autumn, not to mention an early finish on a Friday, so even come mid winter i can still get a daylight ride in leaving the weekend if weather/other plans are made...

Clocks go back...

Spring forward...Fall back...

Sunday morning 2am the clocks went back an hour, so an extra hour in bed for free!, but it means a start of the countdown to the winter equinox and the shortest daylight hours.
In a few weeks it will be dark by 4pm so not many more daylight film opportunities  mid week Monday to Thursday after work, but still plenty of off road cycling to do and fun with the lights on cycling deserted trails. The weekend both days i rode around local trails near my house that will be night time rides midweek on the green frame Surly KramPug 29+ wheeled Alfine hub bike that is my winter ride now winter is coming and road salt etc...

Balgone Lake

Not many Lakes in Scotland-It`s full of Lochans, but there is 3 Lakes in East Lothian if you look at the Ordnance Survey map; Smeaton Lake, Pressminnon Lake, and Balgone Lake...

On across the remaining old Pilgrims route near Whitekirk...

And in a nearby stubble field several thousand Pink Foot Geese grazing...

Home and nice and warm 3 season clothing; Shimano Gore Tex MT90 boots and mid layer Bridgedale socks...

And 3 season Fox gloves...

Sunday dawned clear with a light frost and the trees are starting to change to Autumn gold...

Goats at Seacliff...

And a high tide at the harbour...

Me time Solo cycle and east coast light at Archerfield Beach...

Another fantastic evening on the east coast, a couple of hours to sunset after work and i cycled from Gullane down to the coast,
With a chesty cough for over a month now i`m stil doing short rides with no lung busting stuff,

First off some Go Pro chest cam film along the `Bake Bean` trail,

A heavy shower just missed the coast as it was drawn inland towards the hills and the sun was soon out again...

After the over the bars moment into wet sand last week at John Muir Park the gear shifter had filled with sand so i swapped it over for a Microsoft thumb shifter on another bike to eliminate this happening again, a fit and forget beach proof solution....

It also makes running the clutch mech switched on that previously tends to destroy the Shimano Zee trigger shifters plastic internals, several friends have also had this experience, The Thumbie makes the heavier shifting with the clutch on easy,

Bit of Patina on that cassette!

Solitude,  beach therapy...
I enjoy post work midweek solo rides more these days as the coast is near devoid of other Fatbikes and i just ride when it suits me and i go where the wind and weather conditions suit best.

It is like 12 years ago again when there was only myself and the first Surly Pugsley Fatbike cycling the coast...

Small stones and beach glass high and dry with the shifting wind blown sands...

6 Go Pro stills...

It was that magic hour before sunset i always waffle on about, when the light turns and everything shines, the sea sand and rocks glint and sparkle and cast shadows...
