Tuesday was such a day, clears skies and the first warmer weather of late spring/early summer has arrived!, i cycled into work early on the Dawes, only a couple of other cars commuting at this time of day,
Stoat killed on the road, a shame to see this...
Better head along to work...
Oil Seed is in full flower, end rigs sprayed off for weeds and ideal for fat bikes!...
Wonder if the Council are going to mow Becky`s Strip Byway ?, starting to grow with the warmer days...
Fantastic views from Whitekirk hill today...
Money isn't great but the job has good views in weather like this...
Robert with his Surly Ice Cream truck T shirt!...
First of these caterpillars i have seen this year...
We call them a `hairy Oobit` !
Weather was changing and mid afternoon the forecast thunder clouds rumbled in from the sea...
Busy day strimming...
Soon it was home time and i peddled like mad home before the heavens opened as big rumbles of thunder grew closer. More roadkill-Buck Roe Deer...
Heavy spots of cold rain as the skies darkened...
The heavens opened as i got home. A big box had arrived with the latest purchase!.
A cheap old Peugeot road frame that will be ideal for a fixie build...
I did not think about this old frame using a French thread BB- ok if it was square taper but it came with a cotter pin BB- i need to look out a MTB axle to fit into this if possible, or buy a French threaded sealed bearing square taper BB Here,,, so rather than do that this now i had another idea for the SS,
Back to another bit tinkering first,
Puring down with rain i headed to the man cave for some tinkering, the rattle of the Dawes front mudguard needed fixing... the stays rattle off the tyre when off road or you hit rough tarmac-often on our country roads!...
So i bought a pair of SKS mudguard end clips from SJS Cycles, these safety clips extended the mudguard stay approx 12mm...
I bent out the stay mount on the mudguard...
marked the stay...
bent the end in the vice...
And hey presto-loads of tyre clearance when bouncing about off road...
tweaked the rear mudguard stays too as rattling on the pannier mounts...
Back to the SS bike, The Orange Peugeot frame was bought transfer most of the parts from the Pearson SS i was given by my big bro...
Sadly to small, i need a 56cm frame...
So i decided that until the orange frame is ready why not use the white Peugeot frame set!...
Got this bar and stem from the Genesis, just need to order a converter for the quill stem to the modern A-head stem... that will arrive in a few days via eBay...
So for now i stripped the BB in this bike, not been apart since big bro gave me it over 8 years ago, bearings are still ok!...
Greased up i rebuilt the BB then added the crank arm off the Pearson along with the back wheel to check the chain line. It was miles out!...
Until i moved the front ring onto the inside of the spider, now it looked ideal...
checked with a straight edge it is near perfect!...
Love riding this old frame set, really springy and comfortable, and as a temporary fixed single speed it will be a blast...
Time to Ride...
But it can wait as the rain was off and the sky was clearing again...
Out with the Karate Monkey 29er for an hours blast!...
Stunning evening, everywhere was soaking off road but what the heck!, time to have a good blast through the woods...
Dogs graveyard in the woods, not saying where this is as a private estate...
Shot some film with the Go Pro, great having a quick hours blast from home. was real muddy, i still need a bike with mud tyres!...
