Midweek catch up...Sunny Sundays on the coast, and winter commuting...

Pic by Craig F

Into December and nearly at the winter solstice, After some very overcast weeks at work and a bit soggy underfoot with no wind to dry things it has been nice to get two sunny Sundays in a row to get out cycling under a big blue sky and enjoy the amazing light we get here in East Lothian...
After 2 Sundays ago out with Sanny on our Local Urbex cycle... then again last Sunday i was out on the coast with friends Brian and Craig on the Fatbikes...

I only took a couple of pics at the days end at Seacliff as i was filming-more on that in a bit...

I had a `wheelie` good time along Gullane sands, these pics by Brian...

And the light was fantastic as friend Craig's pics show when we headed down to Seacliff before sunset...

And there was Shortbread and Cider afterwards around the Chimenia!...

Winter commuting;
Despite some days of rain i prefer commuting through the winter months-no really i do!, you can wear work clothing and waterproofs without sweating, you arrive at work warmed up and when cycling i find i relax and have time to think and plan for the days work ahead, often planned by the days weather which you already have a feel for. Then at home time you unwind and by the time your home the days grind has slipped from your mind..
I only did 6000 miles last year with my car, and many of them was through being lazy, and not necessity,
still not bad for living 4 miles from the nearest town and supermarket and not living on a Bus route.
Driving a lot less and cycling has loads of benefits as people know, and not just for your health or environment,  Money saved on car and fuel means more to spend on hobbies!.
Now it is mid winter the best thing about commuting is because i work shorter hours i can cycle into work before sunrise and home before sunset and enjoy some midweek detours home off road cycling under some lovely winter sky's. I can always get an off road cycle in midweek..

Finally this week some frost!, nice to hear the crunch under the tyres rather than the slop of mud on the local trails riding into work...

Cycling to work you are so much more aware of road conditions, take yesterday morning, i stopped to take this pic and 3 cars passed on the bend and 2 spun tyres coming out the corner, all in a too much of a hurry!...

A lot of ice in shaded areas despite this B road having been gritted...

A big sky day about to dawn...

Global Fatbike Day 2014;
This Saturday is Global Fatbike Day...

Groups of Fatbike owners will go ride their bikes all around the Globe and celebrate owning a Fatbike.  There is a local ride here in East Lothian too,  but i will not be going, it is my weekend on at work and even starting before sunrise i will not be finished untill at least 9am when the local ride kicks off at Gullane.Then i got to get home as getting my new stove piped in during daylight hours- I have had no central heating for 2 weeks now...
All is not lost-i will cycle into work then enjoy a wee solo detour ride offroad on the way home, and on a rebuilt Fat rig- back on an Alfine IGH Pugsley!

Been out in the garage the other evening swapping over the Pumpkin Pugsley frame for its recently powder coated drop top tube replacement, The KramPug Evolution continues...

more soon...
