I wanted to add talking to my films ad the added voice over sounds a bit distant and this should add the the feel of being there along for the ride when filming out on the Royal Enfield Classic 350, so bought the Go Pro MEDIA MOD and using this on my new HERO 10 camera...
Off out a run to try it out!
So next I modified the goose next mic position so its a way a bit from my lips and just used pvc
tape to secure it...
Some folk have said the mic is recording in mono and they only hear it in one earphone if listening to the film on headphones. To date I have not found how to change to a Stereo set up for the mic - if there is one or if it is happening because it's a cheap microphone?, apart from this I am quite happy with the results, are any most folk who left comments...
So here is a second film after I moved the mic position...
It's 6 months now since I bought my Go Pro Hero 10 camera and it has been fantastic. I have filmed /edited and uploaded over 50 films and have no problems what so ever. It always starts and stops filming every push of the button, and part from toggling across to take the odd still picture i leave it on 1080/240fps (frames per second) with boost stabilise on, blue tooth off - in fact everything else switched off. In this setting I get 2 1/2 hours film on a 64k memory card and can film several days on one battery. in fact I only used the spare battery on the final 2 days of our week away at Cromarty/Aviemore in May...
I have two Go Pro padded cases and this larger case holds everything I need, the Go pro Hero 8 and 5 session I now use on magnets on the Willys Jeep, charging cable and mains plug, spare 10 and 8 battery, head mount and chest mount, spare quick release camera mount - these can break, esp in cold weather...
Both my Surly Pugsleys and Surly Wednesday, and G`s Pink Pugsley have these £10 motorcycle handlebar mounts and nearly all my cycling films and made from this view point or with myself holding it and cycling one handed to have a look around, the image stabilisation is of a quality I would never imagine possible on a £300 camera... while the older Hero 8 has image stabilisation its not as good as this and walking with the even older Hero Session 5 is now unwatchable you become so accustomed to the steadiness, when cycling the view looks like a drone is following the bike in front its that good...
Only recently I went looking online and then on the camera realising there is a wind reduction setting as always moan about the wind noise on Go Pro cameras, it is satisfactory now and it allows you to still have enough volume to hear waves braking etc...
I retired the older Hero 4 session as it now has play in the charging port and uses an older shape lead socket, while the 5, 8 and 10 all use the same
It is now in the print tray in the Ops Room, along with other old things I have used/found along the way...
Already in there my first Go Pro - a Hero 2, amazing how far these wee cheap cameras have come...
With the 5, 8 and 10 sharing the same lead a spare lead in the van always leaves a charging option if away,
Jeep cameras... 8 and 5
This leads onto my Hero Session 5 I actually bought after the 8 secondhand in as new hardly used condition, bought to make hassle free films after starting issues which have always dogged the 8 requiring opening and removing/reinstalling the battery - not ideal on a windswept coast, or in wet weather!,
Sadly though the wee cube 5 (same shape as Hero 4 session) through probably lack of use does not hold a battery charge for more than 2 days , so you need to charge it full the night before filming.
Magnet mounts allow these camera to be mounted anywhere you want on the Jeep, with it's start/stop issues I tend to sit the 8 on the Jeep and just leave it filming for say 5 minutes and with a foam wind sock the wind noise is reduced a lot but not as good as the 10
While the easy to operate on push 5 session goes all over the Jeep inc underneath for some short film clips of stuff moving etc....

Which leads me to ask the question... with its great small cube size, simple buttons - which like the 10 can be operated with gloves on (3/4 of the year on the Jeep!) why don't Go Pro make a new session with the same bombproof cube of the 4 and 5, yet with the guts of the 10 and remove all the extra stuff for folk who don't need or use it ( like me for instance), that would be great. people say the Go Pro Hero 10 is the best camera from Go Pro yet easily, but its a bit heavier for using on a helmet mount, so this idea would be perfect...
My 2 year old Go Pro HERO 8 Black whilst having fantastic image stabilisation has been bugged with a few recurring glitches that whilst small can be real irritating when they happen as they will inevitably when your filming with other folk and/or in weather that you don't want to be opening the side door that accesses the battery. Numerous times I have factory reset it and had updates via the Go Pro App - I even phoned the help line and had a helpful conversation with someone but the camera was soon back to its old trick of freezing and not starting up requiring the side door to be opened - which usually comes off and drops onto the beach to pull out and re install the battery...
Now imagine if you were out paddle boarding or out cycling in horrific weather be it rain or a real windy day on the coast with sand blowing everywhere?, yeah you can see the dilemma... so when Go Pro Annouced a deal on the HERO 10 of £299 if your a Go Pro member -that allows you amongst other things to store your files on the Go Pro Cloud instead of filling your PC I went for it and it arrived a few days later...
Like the older HERO 8 and previous HERO 9 the new cameras require linking with wi fi to the GO Pro App and checking for updates since manufacture. This also registers your Go Pro with its serial number so if there were any recalls by Go Pro you may/could get a new replacement. There are loads of set up how to YouTube films so I won't go into all that here, but I did buy a second battery with my order as the newer cameras have less battery life time with the increase in tech...
Finally I got to try it out after a weekend of no cycling and today with both batteries mains charged as recommended (not on a PC) I used the bar mount to carry it and mostly filmed using the selfie stick mono pod which had a diy stable stand for leaning in on logs or posts etc for point to point shooting...
1st big improvement on the HERO 10 is the raised buttons allowing operation with 3 season gloves on and you can even swipe the back screen and change function wearing gloves...
I previously switched off everything I will prob not use to help save battery life, so that's the wi fi - I never use my phone to operate my cameras, the voice control, the front screen which is for using for vlogging - I actually hate YouTube footage of peoples face all the time instead of seeing where they are - walking Vlogs are esp irritating when you want to see the scenery or trails!, anyways with all that switched off I last night set my standard film mode and Activity mode - again this is simple to do - again watch some of the many Youtube vids...
My Standard setting is going to probably be 4K Wide (I used to use the lower 1080 on the 8 camera), with 60 frames per second...
And for the activity again 4K Wide but with 120 frames per second for doing some slow mo scenes...
While filming mostly using the Standard setting for point to point and hand held on the mono pod , I swapped easily to Activity setting for where I wanted to add some slow mo scenes with the camera stationery on an object. I easily switched to Camera Setting and took a couple of pics, these look good, certainly good enough for using on the Blog...
So far overall the camera has been more user friendly than my 2 year old HERO 8 Black which has had continued glitches as previously mentioned, with easier to operate buttons when wearing mountain bike gloves and a larger easier to swipe back screen to switch functions...
Back home and I checked how much battery I had after doing the usual amount of filming and it was at 66% remaining, along with all the other things I doubt I will ever use will help save battery life, but they are there if I want to experiment, I prob will try 5K and see what its like but mostly I will use these settings as today as watching the film on the TV it looked good!...
Update; Unknown to me until I uploaded the film my PC did not publish the film in 4K but 1080 as it has to be 4K by 60 frames per second in the first frame and I started with pictures!, anyway here it is in 1080 and hopefully the next film will be in 4K!
So time to see a published film with cool slow speed action without any jittering of picture,
