Weeks Catch up; Smell of hot oil, farewell to combines, Harr, sand and rock... -:)

Been out and about every evening this week, The week started off nice with Mondays amazing sunrise...

Busy at work, it was nice to see an old vintage car roll into the car park at Whitekirk, then another, and another,
It was a vintage car rally, stopping in for lunch,  check these out!

Whistle pulled by cable to a knob on the car floor -:)

Nice to see old stuff like this getting used and not hidden away by collectors...

Mid week and overcast skies, and Sea Haar drifted in and out on the East coast here...

Just a mile from work no haar or dampness!.Looks like the harvest is all done now. All fields nearly cut...

Been an amazing summer and although short with the quick ploughing there will still be some stubble field cycling here and there for a month or so.

With the Haar off out to sea in the evening i cycled to the coast from Dirleton Village on the Surly Pugsley...

Sky was overcast and the light was flat...

Amber lenses in the LOMO glasses were ideal in these conditions...

West from Yellowcraig...

Remember the ruin that used to be here before the function room was built?...

It was a ruin of a former cottage, the occupant , a Mr Porteous, a forestry worker on Archiefield was given 24 hours notice to vacate the premises in 1940!,  for the construction of `Fidra Coast Battery`

A 6 inch former navy gun was installed...this is one of two, the other was west of here above the coast. I have a lot of pictures of all this which i will do a separate post on eventually, but here are some pics...

It was manned by the 309th Coast Battery... ace pic!

A similar Battery was across the Forth Estuary at Kincraig, these sites were to be used in defence of large warships attempting to attack the Royal Fleet when at Roysth...

You can read all about it Here...

There was also 2 coast artillery searchlights (CASL)  for each battery, the east battery buildings survive...

The one up the hill inside the private garden has a slate roof, which was to disguise it as a garden building...

Moving on from here and back to the bike below on the coast...Lovely golf hole on The Renaissance Club

Sea haar was staying away...

No sand in these boots descending the soft sand filled bank with the gators on -:)

The light was really flat to take pictures and confused the compact camera on auto setting...

So some black and white shots where needed...

26", is it really dead? -:)

Remember that wee toy boat i took a pic of on Saturdays ride?...

Set it adrift again...

Wonder where it will end up washed ashore next?...

Fun hour and a bit spent on the coast. Fidra Lighthouse signals it will soon be dark...

Another day and an amazing sunrise on the east coast...

Days work done and its home and some food then out on the pugsley again, no real route plan,
Onshore easterly wind so ride east, then get a tail wind home...

Chestnut trees are always some of the first trees to turn in Autumn..

-:)

Through the local woods...

Still for sale at Tyninghame..  More info here...

Time to ride...

That's an old pair of tyres..

Bake Bean trees!, Buck thorn...

The only upright WW2 coastal defence anti glider pole i have found still standing on the East Lothian coast, There are a few on their sides, which are longer than this pole, and hundreds of sawed off stumps in concrete on our coast...

Now a salt marsh it was all sand here 70 years ago...

Path around the edge, this is a fragile environment, low gears, pedal smooth across it...

Onto the coast...

The Secret trail...

Then onto the rocks as the low sun glowed its final hour of magic light...

360 pan i uploaded on Flickr, so you may not see this on a mobile device...

Fantastic light...

Onto the sand...

6.30pm and the beach is deserted...

Again a 360 film uploaded on Flickr...

Big surf rolling in...

Again some film uploaded on Flickr...

Not see this since i started the blog, the remains of what was once a WW2 machine gun pill box that was at the mouth of the Peffer burn estuary has appeared out of the sands...

Conduct pipe from the radio that connected all the defences...

The last good light of the day has nearly gone due to a low cloud line... time to head for home...

Friday and its the last 6am start and half day Friday summer hours as we move onto winter hours.
I have made the most of the early finish and got out cycling as much as possible, and the Friday half days have mostly been spent out cycling my Surly KramPug, a hybrid created when i was given a set of 29x 3" (29+) wheels from Tyler at Surly bikes after Forth Fat fatbike gathering last April. If your new to reading on here or missed this here is a film of the KramPug...

A lot of people are now looking at these wheel sets for their own fatbikes, whatever make, some they fit some they don`t, no go so far is the On One Fatty and soon to be released Singular Puffin.
One potential future purchaser i bumped into on route to visit my dad this affy,  Hendo had a shot and was wowed at the speed...

An hour catching up with dad with an update and pics of where i have been and saw, then a ride around town and as usual stopped off at the harbour.
Again it was overcast grey dreary skies, but i wasn't, i was happy to be on the start of a weekend off, nothing planned to do, and all weekend to do it...

Heading home and the last of the daylight...

This bike is brilliant with these wheels, it flies, sitting at 15 mph on the road home, not bad for a fatbike - i term the 29+ as a fatbike as it can run half the tyre pressure of a regular 29er 2.25" MTB. its about the float, grip and comfort. Some folks on fatbike forums sat they are not fat bikes, well i leave them to it..

i Phone takes pics darker than you see, It was an hour to sunset...

Still time for a couple of harvested stubble fields, 29+ is not too bad on this...

On the roads home and an early sign of Autumns colours to come...

.

It was 16 degree Celsius today, warm for the time of year. Still its Friday evening and good to get the fire on, stick some tunes on and enjoy a few nice ciders, my favourite - Weston 8.7%  -:)

  1. Hi :-)
What model of GorillaPod is that you're using?

I've got a really small one for my Lumix but want a bigger one that will hold my DSLR and the one wrapped round your Pug bars looks nice and chunky
