After Saturdays big ride, then Mondays 50 miler on the drop bar 29er i enjoyed another days holiday riding the Genesis Cdf on Tuesday.
Sometimes it is nice to just ride with out stopping, just keep cycling and absorb the countryside and it`s views. I rode the John Muir Way from my House to Aberlady doing this , just taking some pics above Seacliff after i left the John Muir Way as i often do and rode east to Gleghornie and around Seacliff on the tracks then along to North Berwick, rejoining the JMW.
I rode just over 40 miles this afternoon/evening and was never on a public road for over a half mile at a time.
Hercules transporter flying past the Bass Rock...
One other picture on the JMW at Yellowcraig...
Another nice wee detour loop on the JMW at Green Craigs
The Longniddry No3 car park before heading up into the village...
Went to see mum, then headed home onto some of the many old roads around here. Time for some more `Roughstuff` riding...
The roads are shown on the 1926 One Inch "Popular" edition Ordnance Survey maps...
And this one to-dunno where all this came from!
Leaving the Railwayline walk a tail wind assisted climb up to join the line of the original Ridgeroad-once the main thoroughfare to Edinburgh. To the right of the track you may if local remember an old cottage ruin here. It was knocked down by a car that it years a go, it was a toll house once - Black Mains Toll, you can see the black square marking the house on the old one inch map...
Old cottage in the field north of the track when it enters the twin Hawthorn hedges is near where there was once a hospital as shown on the map above. No sign of the hospital remains...
Nice trail here at Blackmains, a lovely section of old road...
Down the ace bit of single track in the woods along side the Plantains road that descends to Haddington but instead of riding out at the end go around this locked gate. Here is another section of old road...
You pass another old section of road within a hundred yards that runs north, no doubt this came from Hadddington once and joined the ridge road...
Past the farm and onto the road, sunset selfie...
Was a cracking evening as the sun set...
East on the ridge road past Barnes Castle ruin, also known as The Vaults as it was on the old One Inch map...
Down on the track and over the burn and up to Athelstaneford village...
And a couple of other tracks and soon be home...
The Genesis Cdf is turning out to be a fun bike to ride. with narrower firmer pressure cx tyres the ride is a bit more bouncy than the drop bar 29er Surly Karate Monkey, but the Cdf is a lot faster on the road and smooth stuff like the railway line walks...
With a few wee mods like the gearing change and some tools added it is a great bike for country roads around here in East Lothian, and getting away from traffic and doing some exploring of tracks and trails most people who cycle rarely notice or ride...
Tail wind home and cruising at good speed...
More soon...
Nice post, just got myself a cross bike mostly for commuting but hope to get a few long rides in with it during the summer.
