It would be easy to take a real negative approach to everything when i think of the last 6 months for myself-becoming single when i was very happy,
The car needing it`s own value spent on it for the annual M.O.T which i had to sell a good bicycle to pay for (the mighty surly Moonlander),
Even felt sad witnessing the last ever flight of the last remaining flying Cold War Vulcan Bomber!, a real Cold War icon and an amazing sight to see in our childhood when the threat of nucleur attack was very real indeed here in the UK, yeah be a shame to not see that big roaring hulk of a plane fly again at airshows with it`s famour `Vulcan howl`...
Then the wettest winter in (my history) amd the countryside away from the coast is a mud fest to cycle offroad, impossible to ride offroad to the coast without getting filthy unless a frost which has been rare!.
And now the unresolved problems at work...
But it`s all not that bad!...life is for living and hey i have time to go ride my bike!, just takes a fun bike ride and some sunshine to brighten things up. Today was a lovely clear blue sky, even out in the woods there are signs of spring around the corner...
Including the sten gun drilling of a Woodpecker...
Up over Whitekirk hill and i was heading for the coast avoiding the mud and gloop where possible but away from main roads...
Still frozen here with last nights hard frost....
Down to Tantallon and Seacliff. I had refitted my beach wheels last night to the Pugsley- Surly Larry tyres on Darryl rims as i want to get some more sand riding done, but today i decided to use the midday low tide and do some rock crawling...
Exposed at low tides are the infamous Carr rocks, responsible for shipwrecks and ship wrecking stories like the novel `The Wreckers` by Robert Lewis Stevenson, based on stories of wreckers that did walk a horse along the cliffs on stormy nights with a lantern tied to a leg. The bobbing light looked like a boat safely moored and would lure in boats looking to escape the storm-or so the story goes...
Pic from my 40th birthday present Microlight flight, more pics Here...
Along the shore then out across below the cliffs of the ruin of St Baldreds monastery then out across no mans land...
With 80mm rims and 4" tyres the Surly Pugsley does not have the same float and grip as the Surly Moonlander had with 100mm rims and 5" tyres but it copied well and despite the tyres aired down to 5 psi (aye 5!) the Ghetto split tubeless worked a tread giving a pinch flat free ride and no air was lost out the tyres despite some very loud rim strikes - one caused me a tumble and a broken brake lever but small price to pay for riding a bicycle on surfaces you can hardly walk across...
I stuck the Go Pro on the chest mount to record some of the ride across the rocks. Looks flatter than it really is on the camera!

Check out the empty beach, sun and sand... :D
And all is well in the world again... :)
More soon...
“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.” Arthur Conan Doyle
ReplyDeleteA great quote Dave, and so true!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you are keeping it sunny side up and rubber side down, funnily enough when I became single 8 months ago I bought a fat bike, not looked back since.
ReplyDeleteOne chapter closes and another chapter has begun for you lostonthetrails, enjoy your new fatbike!
