DIY Mono Pod for Go Pro camera
Friend Phil liked the views in yesterdays film from the Mono pod.
I recently bought another (the 3rd) having had 2 previously snap or seize up with sand. I have modded them each time by making a quick release drilling a flat sticky pad Go Pro mount (with the adhesive removed) attached to a seat post mount so takes seconds to use...
Works a treat for making something a bit different. Sunday morning i had a quick hours cycle on the old Pugsley around the woods and made the entire film with the mono pod...
Not much to film here you would think?, flat soggy woodland trails, a winter overcast day with flat light...
Using the mono pod which is 5 feet in lenght you can get some camera views to keep things interesting and a bit different from the regular views shot from the riders helmet or chest mount. Bike mounted Go Pro footage is too bouncy to be worth using,
Pivoting the mono pod around one handed while riding where it`s weight helps keep the film more steady, to getting high up by hooking it on the seat post clamp in trees for ride by views gives good alternative views...
And panning views around and under stuff like here under this lovely old stone bridge, see there is plenty of things to film around the trails if you look and get a bit creative...
If the swans had come across then i could have filmed them underwater feeding, maybe next time!...
The mono pod can be lent up against trees, walls or here on a marker post, quicker than attaching and using a Gorilla Pod mount...
You may say how can i be bothered to go out and make `another` film?, well cause i can! lol
Friends on Facebook had posted no get up and go to go ride, be it the time of year, or maybe the mud away from the coast and the post ride bike cleaning.
I thought of another reason to go a short cycle just to write this blog post and make a film of this handy addition for filming...
I also get around the bike cleaning thing having the old Pugsley set up just for winter riding with full mudguards, Alfine 8 speed Internal Hub Gear (IGH) and chunky Surly Nate tyres - set up Ghetto tubeless so no worries about punctures from the recently cut roadside Hawthorn hedges.
Not been washed for 3 weeks now!, just add some Squirt dry lube to the chain after each ride...
Bomber set up for winter slop and making good use of a bike some newbies to Fatbikes would rate as heavy and old. I rate it as superb and i`m out there riding!...
So using all the angles available with the mono pod, and 28 film clips shot, edited 23 clips into a 3 min film created for the fun of it...
