Roadtrip; York

Roadtrip; York

Friday i finished work and with the van already packed with my Surly Wednesday i picked up Craig and his Pugsley - both bikes had both Fat and 29+ trail wheels for a fun weekend awaiting us around York.

We headed down the A1 to spend the weekend with Mike and Rachel, just outside York City...
After an evening of being shown around and a few Ciders we headed east in his van next day to Ravenscar on the coast, this place made famous as being known as the Town that never was...

You can read more info on Ravenscar here; Wiki page

The Cinder Track is actually 60 miles running from Scarbourgh to Whitby along the East Yorkshire coast and i would like to ride the entire lenght as the section from Ravenscar to Whitby was fun to cycle...

Horse crossing!

A tunnel led out into Whitby and we headed up to the Abby ruins...

Whitby is an attraction for young Goth couples for it`s association with the book Dracula.
The Goths who visit here must love this graveyard...

Here is a film riding the Cinder track...

Into Whitby and we went a cycle around town, descending from the Abby ruins on the Donkey Trail, a super steep cobbled road...

The famous Magpie Cafe, queued out the door...

Onto the beach for a wee play...

Zig zap steep path leads back up to town...

And statue to a famous former resident of Whitby, Captain James Cook...

Time to rejoin the Cinder Trail and on return to Ravenscar we first dropped down to Robins Hood Bay...

Lovely fish and chips...

And a wander around the narrow streets...

Sitting in the warm September sun i could have happily spent the rest of the afternoon here but there was more to see and we cycled out across a low tide across the bay over the exposed sands and rocks to the headland where on the rocks seals were basking in the sun...

This was funny, Mike playing a tune with squeaky brakes and his bulb horn!, watch the film below!

It was then a hike - a - bike out of the bay back up to Ravenscar....

Saturday night and an evening meal in the local village restaurant followed by a pint in the local pub while a Punk band preformed was entertaining!,
Sunday we cycled into York City itself, on the 66 Cycle route...

Some stunning houses around here...

Soon we were into the City...

And through the famous Shambles...

Ahead a glimpse of the mighty York Minster...

This place is massive...

Gothic features...

Through the City we cycled towards the Railway Museum, passed by a lovely old Matchless motorbike, nothing like the sound and small of a British bike....

I wanted to pop in to see a couple of exhibits...

This - the only Japanese Bullet train outside of Japan...

And along with the Mallard,  fastest steam train,

Some big Diesel classics...

This Deltic, awesome power and engineering...

In contrast outside nearby a preserved building from a totally different era...

Was a fun cycle and we returned on the same cycle route 66...
