Midweek Cycle; Another quick fix racing the sunset...

Nights are drawing in...
Harvest has been and gone in a few weeks of wet weather and for cycling it just never happened,
But a lot of other things never happened this year due to weather and the Covid Pandemic...
That's life, and you just reset and move on and adjust doing what you can and cannot...
Getting an hour cycle on the coast after work before sunset is a great way to put the day at work behind you and relax and soak up the coastal views away from folk out in a deserted low tide Bay,
Away from all the worlds nonsense of rushing about, Covid infested shops and pubs and Restaurants...
Cannot think of anything worse I want to be at this now, yet the Government News, and Public seem hell bound on going to these places, and people are flapping about going on holiday and getting away for Xmas.. what is wrong with people?, this obsession with getting out and spending money?..

Stuff that!... glad to do our own thing and escape away from people and stay safe...

Out across the Mussel beds at low tide in John Muir Park is a safe place to be...

EL MTB #13 JMW - Hedderwick Bay Pt 2 of 2

Continuing along The John Muir Way the trail winds around a ruin of a WW2 Searchlight and past the remains of more crumbling concrete of a larger Observation Post at the Hedderwick Burn, you will need to go look for that if interested - just before the wooden bridge over the burn,

Coastal erosion is visible here as the sandy cliffs have been washed out, detours take you away from the edges like here...

1 Hour `Fat fix` before Sunset...

Midweek Cycle, The recent Autumn Solstice signals cooler evenings and the nights grow dark earlier...
When the weather is good the evenings daylight after work is if short,  is good and worth getting out...

Out around John Muir Park is 5 minutes cycle now from home and wether with G or on my own when she is working it's great getting out here quickly from home for a quick fix on the Fatbike..

Riding after work you can unwind and forget the day at work and enjoy what you work for...
For some that's home to a family and kids...
For others the local Pub and their friends and pastimes like Football or Darts etc..
Each to there own and for me it's cycling and right now riding my Fatbikes for an hour hit the spot...

Often as has been the case recently I find something out here revealed in the shifting sands...

Can you see it?...

Rising out the moving sands after 75+ years a WW2 20mm Suzi Hispano Cartridge Shell from the 1940`s when theBay was closed off from the public and was an Ariel live fire range...

A real minted example, the dent on the end seems to be a characteristic of the Hispano guns firing mechanism fitted on the RAF Bristol Beau fighters, and other Coastal Command aircraft that used to train young aircrew here...

Time to head home as the light faded for the day...

Midweek cycle; Beachcombing cycle at JMP...

Another wee cycle from home after work, low tide around John Muir Park and as often once out across the Salt Marsh the place to yourself, Social Isolation out here alone or with G is as isolated as you get so close to a Town,

Today I was in for more WW2 trinkets from when the Bay was a live fire training range for aircraft and troops uncovered in the sands from recent sands being moved around with Autumn swells starting to roll in and shifting sand...

.303 Cartridge shells..

Then two 20mm Hispano Cannon shells...

Nice finds for a short cycle...

Off home as the light started to fade...

Beachcombing cycle at JMP...

Back to JMP to collect the trinkets I have been collecting...

Over 20 tail fins from WW2 Mortars  - the safe end!

Home guard and regular army would have fired these at targets on the coastal range here, most are in the same area, probably a target on the beach, possibly fired at from across at Tyninghame...

Mortar practice...

And nearby an area of sand moved with a recent swell exposed these .303 shell casings and bullets...

With my booty bagged it was back home...

Will see how these clean up using Electrolysis, once I find my battery charger in film below is some pics of friend Phil`s trying that method out on a tail fin from here...
