On my summer hols and trying to cram loads into the long daylight hours as we near mid summer,
I went to the Netherlands last week with Francis for her oldest Nephews wedding. A great few days away...
We stayed at her sisters hotel on a small island De Kaag in the Poldor region, land of the bicycle :)
Never been to a wedding in a windmill before...
Or a reception in a fortified bunker!, this was neat, built pre WW1...
Great falconry display....
Next day we went sailing around the island...
Pizza barge!...
Royal Van Lent Ship yard...
Great fun when the wind got up!
That was fun...
Then Francis and i took a cycle around a tour of the local Windmills...
I opted for a traditional bike!, Francis took a newer bike..
Look at the angle of this house! :)
Dutch bikes are for transport. Gazelle bicycle has neat practical features...
Many of the windmills like this one were working and pumping water, great to see them operation...
Silver skates...
Leiden is a stunning town, a university town is was vibrant and busy with young people...
No shortage of bicycles :)
What a stunning country, clean and tidy with no litter, picture postcard scenery....
Soon time to fly home at sunset...

That looks like some really scenic sailing, and no tides to worry about! Wind mills, bikes, weddings, cattlegrids, brilliant post.
ReplyDeleteMy heart was in my mouth as we tacked up a canal back to the lake, racing toward the banks then turning at the last minute!,
ReplyDeleteI could move there tomorrow, love it...
