After a mild and then wet winter to see our local Lammermuir Hills coated in snow yesterday was too much to resist not going up there to see what the riding conditions were like.
I cycled from Gifford around midday up to Longyester where the gritted road turned to a solid frozen ice road to it`s tarmac end where i was met with waist deep drifts-which were still drifting in the strong wind.
I would end up pushing probably 80% of the route up onto Lammerlaw into a strong biting cold headwind and it was real hard work where i had to push either on the track or where not as deep snow through the heather. I turned around on the North shoulder of the hill before the gate when the drifts got too deep and after a few pics the descent back down was 99% all ride able except for a couple of waist deep drifts!m it was wild with the snow blowing and the temperature around freezing meant i i did not want to hang around after sweating on the climb up there. It maybe was hard work one way on the up, but a great reward with the descent back down , and was stunningly scenic! :)
Time to get home and get the stove on, a hot bath and then a cider or two!...
More soon...
