Roadtrip; Aberdeenshire Coast... Pt 1; Pennan, to Troup Head

Dunnotter,

Bullers of Buchan,

Slain Castle...

Peterhead,

Troup Head,

Pennan;

A weeks holiday in Aberdeenshire, M suprised me with a week booked at a cottage in Pennan, the little east coast village made famous in the street scenes of the 1980`s film Local Hero,
We arrived after a journey along the coast from Aberdeen stopping off at the above pics and the weather was roasting as the heat wave continued...

The beach scenes were filmed on the west coast a Arishaig,
The pub shots of the film were actually filmed along at Gardenstown,
There is the phone box,  but during filming one was set up further out on the harbour...

I last visited here in 2013, and nothing has really changed...

The real steep road in and out, i cycled up and down a couple of times during the week...

Sitting out in warm evenings...

Amazing sunsets...

Burt Lancaster was the famous star of Local Hero, this was in the cottage behind a jar,

The real star of the film was of course Pennan...

Here is a great short film on YouTube with Mark Kemode interviewing Bill Forsyth the director of Local Hero...

Wee film of Pennan,
Song is `The Shape Is In a Trance` by Thurson Moore...

Downie Bay;
Nearby is Downie Bay and a common feature here on the coast is high headlands and cliffs and tidal arches which small bays between...

Troup Head;
RSPB Reserve clifftop trail, not for the faint hearted but a chance to get real close to Gannets below as they cling to the cliffs..

More soon...
