After 21 years one of the best British bands of my late teenage years, The Stone Roses headed by Ian Brown released a new single today! titled "All For One" it is the first single of a forth coming new album...ace!!!
I like listening to music sometimes when cycling, esp when out on the coast away from everyone,
A band i really like are PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING
Good upbeat music combined with audio and film in their videos of important moments recorded in our history...
Click here for previous PSB posts of their music and films,
And PSB have just released another album!; `The Race For Space`
I got it ordered!
Here is the track Go! from the new album released on youtube this week...
I wish PSB used Vimeo, no stupid pop up adds like here on youtube!
A re released Boards of Canada EP `Hi Scores` arrived through the post last week, pre ordered, i was looking forward to this. You can read a review here on Pitchfork, and here is a link to the fan site bocfanpages.org
5 years ago...
It was 5 years ago i discovered Boards of Canada`s unique music when i came across Dayvan Cowboy on Youtube, a fantastic tune...
It was watching the film i discovered about `Project Excelsior` and would then do a short blog post, this is the sort of stuff i love to blog when not cycling, you can read the blog post Here...
I then realised over the next year or so i was listening to BOC as backing music quite often on TV programmes.
Music to Cycle to...
Since discovering BOC 5 years ago i have spent many hours in the saddle on the coast with their tunes in my head. I find their rhythmic beats great to cycle to. The tempo went well with the weird halo effects of the early films i made with the old 90 degree lens Tachyon SD cameras. And then later through the fish eye lens of the Go Pro Hero 2 sports camera...
This song is a favourite; Buckie High
I don`t think anyone else had made cycling films to their music before, mind you no one else had made coastal cycling films either...
BOC music still fits the changing moods of the weather and light on the coast for filming, There is a song for every visit to the coast...
With the EP playing in my headphones on my old i pod mini, i was down at John Muir Park Sunday affy for a quick fat-fix ride in wild windy sand blowing conditions..
I shot some Go Pro chest cam on a sand blown loop around Spike Island on a near deserted beach. Edited down from one continuous clip of 25 minutes to the 1st track of the re released EP,
click on the cog icon thingy to view in HD
Song is `Hi Scores-2014`
Or watch on Vimeo straight to HD with no pop up adverts
A favourite new band on mine is Public Service Broadcasting (PSB)
I came across them 2 years ago when they released a mini EP `The War Room`
I have already posted these videos of some of the tracks from the EP
Spitfire;
And London can take it;
I then bought all their other releases, here are Three great tracks which combine their music with dialoge and film which brings together a unique combination...
Fatbike Friend John gave me a heads up on this link posted on youtube, crank up the volume!
I love our weather here in Scotland on the east coast and how it changes so often, onshore winds, offshore winds control it a lot and the North sea, like the Sea Haar of last week drifting in...
Good weather for ducks...
After the long drought we had an amazing couple of thunderstorms over the end of last week...
You know their coming as the humidity increases, and your soaked in sweat at work and cycling, and the Thrips or as we call them Corn Lice, or Thunder Bugs appear, and drive you nuts!...
A good thunderstorm clears the air and gets rid of the bugs too!..
It was getting too dry anyway...
First thunderstorm rolling in as i rode home from mums. The light in the sky was amazing...
As Sarah Conner Says in Terminator; `Theres a Storm Coming`...
After dark the heavens opened after the loudest thunder i have heard for years!, awesome noise!
Compact camera does not quite pick up how loud it was...
Then next morning clear cool air at 5.30am, as the storm headed out to sea...
Loads of animals like the damp conditions, like Newts...
Ladybirds have appeared too...
Loads of wee toads everywhere too...
Another heavy shower...
Friday afternoon was the same as i rode to the coast to meet Christian walking the coast, then Friday evening another good shower, then look at this, Saturday morning at 5am in at work...
I did say we have amazing weather here on the Scottish East coast -:)
Saturdays skies would echo with a different thunder today, as it was Airshow day.
Once again our counties skies would echo to the roar of Merlin engines...
The drought continues and the heat wave is forecast into the weekend... -:)
Every evening though we have been robbed of a golden sunset and a sky that turns fiery red as the sea harr drifts in from the coast. The sunsets will come with the harvest in late August/September, but i am enjoying the warm evenings riding about for a couple of hours on the KramPug, lost in the Pugsley Matrix...
As usual listening to music, tonight i loaded the 1994 hit album `Superunknown` by Soundgarden
I got a text yesterday evening from Cara at work to say someone has just dropped off a CD and picture cards for you Bruce with the instructions that no one except myself is to get it. I wondered who and what it was so nipped up to Whitekirk, and check out this;
Scottish Band BOARDS OF CANADA`S new album TOMORROW`S HARVEST which is not released until 10th June, how cool is that!
Marcus or Mike must have been down the coast from Edinburgh today, Thanks so much guys!, and i would like to return the kindness by taking you guys a cycle on the coast anytime your free -:)
I found out the next day they had been down wakeboarding at FOX Lake by my friend,
I grew up listening to my big brothers rock music,
but it was his LPs by Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk that i really liked and would play them over and over.
My big sister listened to among other stuff Gary Numan, Cocteau Twins. THE THE, and John Peel sessions, all that along with stuff at the time like The Cure and The Psychedelic Furs,
Also the soundtracks to those early 1980 films like Escape from New York, The Warriors where keyboards were used i loved, and still love today,
Boards of Canada is music that i describe as where i can lose myself and find myself...
The music is very distinctive with unique and often offbeat tones that i have found great to cycle to, and inspired by, to make films...
Great music for our coast here in East Lothian where the music matches the movement of waves on the coast and also our big skies we get here in Scotland...
Here is the first song from the new Album that BOC have published on YouTube
`Reach for the Dead`
Here is an interview of Mike and Marcus on Pitchfork
A classic and favourite song of mine is `Dayvan Cowboy`, here is the official video on youtube... it features film from Progect Excelsior
If you have ever cycled across the 4 miles of hard white sand of Scarista Beach on Harris under a clear blue sky listening to this on your i pod then you will know what i mean when i say `being out there...`
Or here to film of flying around our amazing coast of East Lothian, Dayvan Cowboy is a perfect and quite moving track...
`Buckie High` is another favourite track of mine, great rythmic tones to cycle to on the coast...
There are some brilliant fan made films to their music. like this;
and this...
The new album TOMORROW`S HARVEST is their 4th album and the 8 year wait has been worth it as it is brilliant, it has already got my over active mind buzzing with ideas for films to make to the music and it has some top tracks...
I live in East Lothian, S.E. Scotland.
I fill my time with my hobbies, interests and passions. Often cycling along the coast here. I ride steel bikes with big wheels, I like to enjoy all interests of the coast, Its scenery, wildlife, local history, with my other interests in art and music when out and about...
I was diagnosed with Relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis in August 2018, it`s early days but i plan to continue to live my life as i have and show that having a medical condition like MS does not mean you need to stop enjoying your life,
Please excuse the bad grammar, i am working on it!
