Midweek Cycle...

Another week off work on Furlough, so out and about, a wee 23 mile loop of easy trails. cloudy skies and a strong Westerly made up for lack of climbs today!...

Fields are starting to turn as East Lothian starts to take of the golden brown harvest colour it is famous for...

Soon enough were back home , an enjoyable cycle, sun came out once we were nearly home!...

EL MTB #7; Plantains...

Marked as a Core Path I hope this trail does not get dug out and all weather surfaced as it is a great natural surface trail descending through trees along side the road and is fun!, take care in Summer when overgrown as you cannot see far enough ahead through the trees for other users coming up the hill,  The trail has some jumps built by kids best avoided as real bad transitions to hit at speed, and in the past someone irresponsibly put rope and logs across the trail, best ride it early spring before the leaves are out and cycle up it first to check it, that way it will also be clear of anyone walking up,

EL MTB #6; Garletons

There are many trails to record on the local Garleton Hills, here is the joining trail between the modern A and B class roads, once part of the Garleton ridge road this old green lane was once a busy thoroughfare and as signed at it's west end is named Blackmains Toll, as there was a Toll house when here was a crossroads, the Tollhouse was demolished in the 1980`s after a car crashed into it,
Hawthorn hedges line some of the old road and nearby at it's western end was the sight of the old Sanitarium Hospital as marked on old maps. It is a handy joining route  from the Garleton to then descend down to Longniddry on the old Haddington Railway line track...

EL MTB #5; Seaton Dean

Another trail that was near unrideable a few years ago and is now a lovely swooping trail descending through lovely Woodland scented with garlic and flowers in Summer and Bird song drowns out the approaching main road it exits onto...

EL MTB #4 Liberty Hall to Letham Mains...

The old Right of Way west of Haddington to Letham mains is a short flat route and has always been little used and never the easiest to cycle as often overgrown. It's start is being engulfed by new housing before it cuts through trees onto a defined track where it is still easy to cycle

A short section through woods was until recently really tight to cycle but better now, the last section alongside the field still the same and overgrown in summer and wet in winter...

At it's west end extensive drainage and clearance work has been carried out at time of writing, maybe a new surface track will appear?...
