1st North Sea east coast winter storm of winter; Pt 2 of 4; Rain stops play so visit to Museum of Flight...

Saturday morning dawned horrid with mist and rain so i took Mike to East Fortune Museum of Flight and New upgraded  hangers are superb!,  as always when you walk into the Concorde hanger you cannot help but be amazed at this iconic aircraft...

"Going Supersonic give me Gin and Tonic"...  or a coffee...

Jet engines are everywhere...

Long before the Jet age East Fortune was made famous as an Airship Airbase and the first Trans Atlantic crossing by Airship R34 that left from here in 1919...

By 1940 Fighter pilots flew from here along with young training pilots of various Operational training Units (OTU)  Squadrons

The Humbie Heinkel... and it`s pilot...

Star of this museum for myself is a symbol of Britain made famous in the summer of 1940 and since has been recognised as the most famous British aircraft of WW2, The Supermarine Spitfire...

Below is a polished V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine...

Nearby the Cold War Mig Jet..

And vertical take off and land Harrier Jump Jet...

And one of the most famous Jets the English Electric Lightening...

Beside the Tornado...

And Jaguar

Outside sits the iconic Vulcan Bomber...

Rain would be off by mid afternoon so time to go ride bikes!....

1st North Sea east coast winter storm of winter; Pt 1 of 4

The first of the big North Sea swells of this winter pushed in on the east coast here last week bringing tumbling surf and dramatic scenes as huge waves broke on the harbours and rocks along our coast...
Friday and work done i headed down to Tyninghame with my sister`s partner Ian for a coast run/cycle and the power of the sea was as always when these storms arrive breath taking and leaves you in awe at the power of the sea....

Wild!

Home and later the arrival of loads of unique Fatbike parts and custom Fatbikes means one thing; yep friend Mike was here for the weekend!!!,
Check these out!, this finish is called Hydro coating...

Not many of these in the UK, a Borealis Carbon Fibre fatbike, 26 lbs in weight...

`If Surly made steel full suspension Fatbikes`...
Would be nice but in fact it`s not as stickered, but a UK Cotic Rocket steel suspension MTB with 26" x 50mm Rabbit Hole Surly Instigator wheels and 3" Surly Dirt Wizard tyres,
Oh also it has an `Avalanche Cartridge` Fox Vanilla fork and a Titanium spring Cane Creek Double barrel (DB) rear shock... those who are in the know will know all this is very very bling...

Unfortunately for Mike i seemed to be down to one pint glass after cracking two lately so unfazed he found a pint measuring jug and happily drunk his Weston's Cider from that  lol...

A good start to a fun weekend then... more in the next post...

Midweek cycling, Autumn on it`s way, and some 29+ wheel cycling sandy singletrack...

Autumn weather is here, cooler in the mornings and leaves dropping from the trees, the  last fields have been harvested now and many are sown with next years crop...

After an off road detour commute it was back out on 29+ wheels on the new Pugsley to meet friends Markus and Christian on an evening commuter train at North Berwick and between the suits of rather tired looking people they emerged through the crowd both grinning as only you can when your going cycling on the coast!...

I led them along the sandy singletrack from North Berwick to Yellowcraig, still overgrown in places but eventually we rode through Archerfield and via the Coastguard track emerged at Gullane and rode on through the Reserve and the John Muir Way to Gosford Bay. We dropped onto the beach to avoid  shining out lights head on to cars on the coast road and having negotiated the rocks in the dark emerged at the coastal car parks.  The guys rode back to Edinburgh from Longniddry while i head home via mum`s for a cup of tea and biscuits...

Gullane Savanna...

As usual none of the pics turned out i took once dark!, and riding in front is not ideal for trying to film!, but i did manage to shoot a little bit film here and there.  A short 2 minute film with `Me and my Desire` by 999 (edited shorter)

Markus was riding ahead and shooting film on his i phone which impresses me with it`s editing quality and image stabilsation.  all shot and edited and published on a mobile phone...

More soon...
