I've hardly ridden the pugsley this last while so headed to the coast today,it is after all mostly the reason i started writing this blog,
every 2nd weekend off from work i get i want to go camping but the weather is always crap!, it poured down Thursday night but although Friday cleared a gale force wind got up!, good news if your a farmer around here wanting to get the harvest in but not what i wanted to go camping locally above the coast somewhere,
but i also think i have lost the motivation to go camping on my own,
this year i have really enjoyed biking with other people after being a bit of a lone rider only socialising at trail centres, this lovely film on the American Fatbike Forum is all about what i would love to do along our coast with friends, just pack bikes go ride and camp...
i really like those aluminium 9zero7 frames with there taller headtube and they would make for a lighter rust free replacement for the pugsley when the day comes...
and anyone know who those frame bags are made by?,
perfect for just tools, spare tube and pump...
maybe one day over here there will be other local guys to go group biking on Fatbikes, apart from riding with friend Gary and his pugsley its still lone rider stuff...
wind was still wild today so rode the usual zig zag route to the coast offroad avoiding a slog into the westerly gale,
only 11am and combines were already out...
another trick up the pugsley`s book of tricks is it is alot better at riding across stubble fields than your regular mtb and i could just ride as the crow flys across harvested fields...
onto the Nature reserve at Aberlady Bay and riding out a lone tank block about opposite where the sewage works is has the date and number...
it was No 11 made that day...
onto the Bay and only an hour from high tide and the WW2 sub wrecks were already under water, did find this water pistol ray gun...
big old log washed up...
tyre pressure was pumped up today to around 15 psi for the ride to the coast and back and while ok for the road and trails it wasnt that good for wet sand now soft with the incoming tide...
so i cut up above Gullane and rode sandy paths East along to Freshwater Haven,
high noon and high tide...
around to the cove below marine villa and although still possible to get around the rocks...
and on to Yellowcraig i couldnt be bothered riding down to North Berwick on a narrow section of beach which now would be soft with the tide and busy with day visitors so cut through Archiefield estate and found a lovely wee trail in a wood which i will film riding another day...
heading home i filmed some more Harvest stuff and decided riding home that our county scenery looks great with fair weather clouds and blue skys...

I spotted a Jandd logo on the small black frame pack. Now I'm thinking I could use one.
ReplyDeleteVery cool video. I haven't been on my Pug since the snow left. I'm really itching to get out on it. I might even commute to work on it one of these days just for laughs.
doug; the frame bag is an Abus lock bag, it should be the other way up in the frame triangle but i use it for cameras, it has a small velcro interior pocket gor lock keys but i use it for spare batterys and ice cream money!
ReplyDeleteI was answering your question about the frame bags in the video....."and anyone know who those frame bags are made by?"
ReplyDeleteah...oops!, i did once see a link to them somewhere but cant find it!, thanks doug!

ReplyDeletesweetness in that video for sure thanks for sharing!!!!

Great video, and as KungFooSausage said, we all want to have a go at beach riding now. Plus, the idea of owning a Pugsley is very enticing. I really liked the pace these guys were riding, having plenty of time to see all that was going on around them, that's the way cycling should be for me, it's not about getting there, that counts, it's about the journey.
ReplyDeletei think a group beachride film hows how laid back the riding can be, slowly fatbikes are gaining interest here in the UK!
