A wet week come good, Autumn evenings out cycling, err and another bike!

Big photo dump coming up!

Been cycling every day this week, most days to work with a detour home, or bike on the car for a quick hour on the coast, getting out and enjoying the weather when it is good.
Autumn in November often can be cold and wet and a bit dull and overcast.
October in the whole has been dry with some nice skies over the coast...

Weekend on at work and a lovely Saturday dawn, not the heavy rain as fore casted!...

The sky changed by the minute this morning, amazing...

I was off up to Stirling for the day to visit my Big brother, O, and my little niece Lily...

I bought an old MTB off a work mate for big bro as he wanted a MTB hack for winter commuting. And also because he has offered to give me his single speed road bike... -)

1 Giant MTB....

Swapped for a Pearsons Touche, ridden through 4 winters it has done a few miles around Stirling but plenty life in it yet...

It comes with two flip flop hubs, and CX 35mm tyres, ideal for around my commute on mud strewn winter roads...

A bit tinkering on big bros new bike first...

After a nice day with the clan at Stirling i returned home with a new bike. More on it in a post soon, a bit tinkering to do first...

The Pugsley has needed a new Bottom bracket for a couple of weeks.
How can i get a Truvativ Howitzer 100mm  BB from Germany for £35 including B&B delivered in 4 days, when they are £60 + p&p in the UK?!!!

Bike rolling smooth again along with some new free hub bearings...

So i rode the purple beastie to work on Monday...

"Red sky in morning shepherds warning"...

And it poured down all day from around 9 am!.
The rain had eased a bit by home time and i rode across to woods on a local estate, along the original Dunbar to North Berwick Byway, on the only original unmaintained condition part of the route - Becky`s Strip from Whitekirk to Gleghornie...

I have already blogged about the threat to resurface this Byway, a crazy stupid waste of tax payers money for a pointless path when the John Muir Way runs parallel to this and is already an all surface blaze path.

It seems Councillor's are determined to push this through and plan to use heavy handed tactics.
Thing is Planning consent will have to be given for change of use from Agriculture to recreation only to concrete or resurface this path.

There is a meeting next Wednesday at Haddington Council buildings,
Watch this space for more updates on the Byway...

I had a poke about one of the two bottle middens under the Hawthorn hedge rows...

Firth Milk bottle?...

Even on an overcast wet late afternoon their is nice colour on the trees...

And Autumn goodies to find...

Rain back on!..

The John Muir Way runs parallel to Becky`s Strip Byway, and it goes off road all the way to North Berwick and is an all weather track. Ideal for cycling.
Sustrans leave our ancient Byways steeped in history alone in their natural state!

And off home...

Can you buy `Free Range Children` nowadays?  -) ...

Next day and more rain showers then a clearing sky as i rode down to the coast at North Berwick...
Rainbow weather...

That magic hour of amazing light before sunset, i know i am always going on about it!, but is is amazing light on the coast here...

A sunny day and commute to work on the old Peugeot road bike and some roughstuff riding after work.
I was on my way to visit dad at the nursing home but thought i may as well go get some pics for a future blog post.

Back over Becky`s Strip Byway...

No problem to ride this track, after heavy rain on a road bike with 32mm tyres -) ...

Down near North Berwick....

And some pics for a post to do soon on a plane crash here in WW2...

A scoot around town, and see a few folk then cycle home to an amazing sunset...

Thursday evening and again clear skies after work!
Off out for a couple of hours on the Surly KramPug 29+ as doing a few road miles to ride some trails..

And across some stubble fields as we got that magic hour of late evening light...

Long shadows and an amazing red glow...

Gotta race to get up onto West Garleton hills for sunset...

Made it as the sunset over the Pentland Hills...

WW2 Home Guard building...

And the disused quarry...

Heading home as darkness and temperatures dropped, still 7Celcius but feeling cooler than of late...

Lights on and along trails all the way home. Garleton Ridge Road...

And back to where i took the first pic an hour and a half and 18 miles later...

Good fun mixing up bikes through the week. Think i will get the big Moonlander out this weekend for more fatbike giggles... -)

  1. Pearson, now that's a proper bike with 35 cx tyres and drop bars. Carbon forks? Very efficient Herr Mathieson.
