Saturdays Beach ride...Out with the posse...

North Berwick was once just a fishing town with a church, that was a central place of worship by a god fearing nation for things that could not be explained, and no one would question. People came from all over Scotland to here to worship, and for some to repent their sins.

It is also famous because of the woman who were burned at the stake on the spot of the present Celtic cross that stands today during those years of the infamous Witch Trials, and there was a lot of  torture and burnings here, it was the hot spot of witch trials on the Scottish east coast ...
Dark times...

From the ruins you see here today of the old church, St Andrew set sail across the Firth of Forth to land at the now named St Andrews...

And established a monastery which became the church of Scotland  and the ruling religion of Scotland, along with the Saltire flag , also from here in East Lothian,

Scottish history in the making here in North Berwick...

People came from all across Scotland to worship here in North Berwick.
Today they come for a day at the coast....

That includes to ride fatbikes!...

Big Foot meets Little Foot...

I posted up on the UK fatbike forum and facebook for a Saturday ride and they came...

Richie from Newcastle,
Sanny from Glasgow,
Stuarty from Stirling,
Brian from Tillicoultry,
Half fat from West Lothian, and locals Jason, Colin, Craig, Gavin, came along for a warm Autumn days coastal cycling...

Group rides like today are all about the laughs and catching up with friends. No stats or stuff like that. Never really is for me anyway. smiles per mile is way more fun.
We rode to Gullane along the coast for ice cream, then returned to North Berwick along the John Muir Way and had some chips...
We laughed and joked all the way there and back.
My rear brake pads seperated and fell to bits so i  rode with no rear brake for the day, that kept things interesting!, and we found a new use for the disued sewage pipes...

Even fatbikes can struggle on the coast, The big Moonlander makes it up here far easier than 4" fat...

Looking a bit lost...

We met Mary out on a solo run, Peter was racing at Dunbar...

Then the other coast runner Mandy appeared with Harris the Vizla, they headed east to North Berwick along the coast...

We headed to COOL`s for ice cream....

Then a blast back on the John Muir Way to North Berwick...

Great company and thanks friends for travelling to North Berwick for a days relaxed riding on our coast -:)

Some film.
NOTE; Sanny and i hung back on the John Muir Way to wind it up a bit for the film, remember this is a shared trail, and we would have heard the pings of bells from the guys in front if any other users were on the trail ahead.
Ride smart, safe and smile -:)

  2. That was a grand day oot, Bruce! Just the ticket for getting over a rotten cold! I plan to be over again soon. Fancy a longer ride along the coast perhaps from Dunbar to North Berwick or a wee Fife Coastal Path jaunt?
