Dawn Cycle; Old Byways and lost roads...

Today i rode a loop from home on the old Surly Pugsley around some old Byways, and lost roads from a bygone age, linked in between as i often do with some XC `Right to Roam` cycling in between -)

Below 0 Celsius all morning the ride was dry and mud free, crunchy under neath!...

Woods here were the bomb store for RAF East Fortune during WW2...

Oak trees have a lovely Autumn glow in the sun this now...

Lovely shade of blue...

No livestock so a bit of `Right to Roam` xc up to the trig point on Sled Hill...

Mist out in the Forth, Sub wrecks visible in Aberlady Bay...

Across to Barney Hill next...

Grind grind grind...

There is loads of stuff to ride around here away from the old Ridge Road, a lot of nice single track made by the hooves of livestock. Don`t do this if  livestock are in the fields!.
Here is a film riding around Byre Hill, Sled Hill, and Barney Hill a few years a go. On the old Cannondale Uber V

The North side of Sled Hill is pretty steep, nearly killed myself trying to descend it on the Pugsley a few years back!.  front pinch flatted - put a ding in the rim and split the tyre!, try to stop was interesting, pity it was not on film!.
Music is Nirvana!

These days i prefer to ride more chilled on a fatbike, getting too old for injuries, and the recovery time,
live to fight another day and all that... -)
I made this film up here back in August 2012. Ariel footage at start is from the Microlight flight i did for my 40th...

Back to today and the cruise continues...

And down the Ridge Road to stop at the Vaults...

You can read more about this historic road here on a Previous blog post

Happy -)

Road or Stubble?...

Stubble it is!...

To the east another section of the old Ridge Road climbs to Pencraig Hill in the centre of the picture

And home from Athelstaneford village...

The new Soloman boots are ace for cycling in. Grip Flat pedals perfect. Feet were warm wearing Bridgedale wool socks...

Happy days!...

Life is good -)
