Had a lovely winters day on the coast on Sunday!.
It was clear skies, freezing cold and really windy with tumbling waves of surf being blown in on the mid afternoon high tide. Apart from the lack of sand to ride on in places it was the perfect clear winter day...
I cycled the John Muir Way to North Berwick on the Surly Pugsley,
I had Boards of Canada playing on my iPod. i enjoy listening to music on real windy days.
If you are new on here then maybe your wondering who Boards of Canada are?
Brothers Marcus and Mike are from here in Scotland and their music is unique, and the slightly offbeat rhythm just seems to go well with the rhythm of incoming waves as you cycle along the beach, easily my favourite band!.
This is `New Seeds` from the new BOC album `Tomorrow`s Harvest` on Youtube
Put their music to a beach riding film and it brings the film to life i discovered a while ago.
Here is a film from a few years back...
Back to today...
I visited dad at Fidra House mid morning, then winched into the wild Westerly gale on the JMW to Gullane and ropped onto the beach at high tide. I watched wind surfers and kite surfers, then cruised to North Berwick with a gale assisted tail wind along a very narrow high tide sand line!.
Fish and Chips in NB, then another visit to see dad again! - mum was there too in the afternoon, and i got a big mug of tea and some Ginger bread!.
Then i rode home on the JMW as the sunset, a perfect Sunday... -)
Roll the pics...
Short film i uploaded on Flickr of the waves rolling in near Freshwaterhaven,
This may not be viewable on some mobile devices...
Along the coast under an amazing sky...
And ran out of sand by Yellowcraig...
High tides let you get real close up to the bird life...
Fantastic blue sky as i was forced to ride above the beach on the links...
Then a cycle down to the harbour...
Late afternoon fantastic light...
Sunset not long away as the low sun cast amazing light on the rocks...
Our bonnie Saltire flag...
Time to leave the coast and ride home via the JMW...
And the setting sun cast an amazing glow on the landscape. Many more days like this to come...
The temperature dropped rapidly now, time for home, hot bath, then a cider in front of a roaring fire, more soon...
The weather was stunning! We Headed through again to the Museum of Flight.......what a brilliant place! Some wind though......
ReplyDeleteHope you liked our Supermarine Spitfire on display, awesome machine!, easily my favourite plane there!
ReplyDeleteAye it was real breezy on the coast!
Great pics as usual. That looks like a Folkboat at the harbour. I'll have to pedal over for a look some time.
