Mid Week Update; Surly KramPug and Pugsley...

Been some wild showers and even some hail this week!.  Temperatures have dropped to around 6Celcius with a cold and blustery SW wind most days.
Not done much cycling except a few days commute and a ride after work.
With sunset at 4.30pm i have only an hour then its on with the lights to ride home!.

On Tuesday i rode the Surly KramPug to work as forecast was for clear evening skies...

Was a lovely day at work...

8 Hour shift done and it was play time -)

Time is running out for riding the trails away from the coast as things are getting wetter again for the Krampus wheeled Surly Knard tyres which are dry weather tyres, they clog with the mud here and lose most grip if the ground is saturated...

So after all the heavy showers of the last week i rode to the coast across to Seacliff for some sunset pics...

Long shadows...

From a low sun a half hour from sunset...

The sunset glow was beginning to happen...

-)

Sun was setting real quick!

As i spun along to North Berwick...

The street lights were still not on after it set!

So i went to annoy Dave at his shop for a while then rode home in the dark.
I tried to take pics of the lights on the trails but they just came out blurred. If you wanna see how much fun it is riding trails with good lights then i guess you will just need to come out for yourself! -)

On the JMW home i rode down a saturated field boundary and the KramPugs tyres clogged instantly. What happened is that in stead of staying clean like a mud tyre, or even the near slick Surly Larry fat tyres, the tyre just throws the mud up all over you!, my boots were filled with grit by the time i got onto the road home!.
So the wheels will be off the KramPug and the old Mk 1 Pugsley will be stripped soon to be re coloured Grey again and fitted with Marge wheels.

Don`t worry the orange and black colour scheme will continue with the 29+ wheels etc on the new Pug frame on its way that will be built up over winter.
Been slowly gathering parts for the next bike as i have robbed a few parts off of my existing fleet.
Also bought up some 9 speed stuff this week for my two Pugsleys as going real cheap now that 10 speed is mainstream...

I love shopping...  -)

The Purple Pugsley has had some tinkering done out in the Man Cave this week.
I changed the front wheel bearings, rear hub and cassette bearings, the Bottom Bracket, a new Front mech (Deore E Type 9 speed for £9! at CRC), then tonight stuck a new chain, chain rings and cassette on.
First thing to do is de grease the chain for beach riding, i use a coffee jar with Paraffin, then caustic `Truck Wash` power washer soap cleaner after that, shake and rinse...

Fitted a steel LX cassette, only £11 at CRC!, it is heavier than the more expensive  alloy cassettes but better for beach riding as harder wearing, i usually get 4 nickle plated Sram 991 chains to a set of chain rings and cassette.
I also fitted some new jockey wheels on the rear mech, not XT ones with bearings but Deore without, one less issue from sea water...

Happy in my Cave... -)

And one Pugsley ready to be my main go to fatbike for trails as well as the coast through this winter.

Off out tomorrow with friends here on the coast and trails.... happy days... -)
