Isolation Cycle 62; Stoneypath to Johnscleugh...

Another day on our side of the Lammermuir Hills, good weather forecasted so we made the most of it and followed country roads to cycle an old rode that crosses a northern hillside into the hills...

At Stoneypath farm the tarmac gives way to gravel and steeply climbs up over Dunbar Common to descenf down to Johnscleugh Farm...

Stopping for a gate is a good excuse to catch your breath, and soak up the great views along the coast...

The old road is easy to follow it`s entire way though G was planning on a short detour to show mw something...
East of the track on the summit of Rook Law it the crash site of a Supermarine Spitfire that crashed on 26th August 1942...

We walked to the site...

Spitfire BM647 (453 Squadron - Drem) took off from Drem with another Spitfire on a routine exercise and around 3.45pm was seen to dive vertically into the ground, Pilot Sgt Steele was killed...

Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum excavated the site a few years ago and the aircraft remains are there on display...

Returning to the bikes we continued and soon were descending to Johnscleugh Farm...

We were soon on a minor road and on route to another WW2 Aircraft crash site...

Wee film, Song is `Wizards of Ahhhs` by Sinewave,

More soon...
