I got two tickets for last Thursday at Edinburgh's Queens Hall for a Scottish Chamber Orchestra concert.
Something i have always wanted to see is a classical music live performance, esp so since i have started to listen to a lot more in the last couple of years, it must be an age thing...
I appreciate a lot of things in life now as i get older...
Scotland - Its amazing history, and its all year round scenery...
Victorians - the engineering and architecture i find amazing...
WW2 history - the Operations, machines and what normal people did for their country - i will always be in awe at their bravery...
Bicycles - their simplicity and benefit of freedom to explore, and the physical and mental health benefit along with many friends made for life...
Art - i understand though not always like all of its aspects...
Merino Wool base layers - no smell, wash it when you remember...
Good whiskys - again i think it is an age thing...
A taste of fine wines - i still have to acquire...
Brooks leather bicycle saddles - pure quality that will last you years...
Classical music - after watching a live performance i totally get it now, amazing how the sound amplifies and fills you with a sensation i cannot describe but knew every other person sitting there felt during the performance...
It was a great couple of hours. Being single and no idea who to invite i did what traditionally a Scottish bachelor would do and i took my sister along who is a big opera fan and she too enjoyed the performance...
Antonin Dvorak - Czech Suite, Op 39 (1879)
Mozart - Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor K466 (1785)
Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No2 in D major, Op 36 (1802)
Cannot see any of these performances by the SCO on youtube, however here is a film of them preforming a tune everyone will recognise and a great made film -:)
Handel - Entry of the Queen of Sheba

Playing in a brass band for twenty-five years led me to different styles of music and the experience of hearing it from within the band was incredible. If it hadn't been for that I wouldn't have got into a lot of the music I now listen to. I think there's a place for everything and it's a shame when people get too pigeon-holed in their musical tastes or too narrow in their experience of music. Almost any live music is worth listening to I find. A concert is rarely a waste of time, money or effort.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it CK. Nice when that happens.
I listen to the Einaudi Cd's you gave me a lot - in fact they're some of my favourites for when I'm working on the pc - great for backing tracks to slide shows of photos etc too and you know we share a liking for a malt or a good beer/cider too.
nice one!
Thanks Al, May is the busy month at work, and with new ventures, but need to share a beer soon -:)
ReplyDeleteask them for your video soundtracks!!!
