WE3FAT North Yorkshire Moors October 2012

The 3rd UK Fatbike gathering was at Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors.
A small historic village you may know because of its use for filming the TV series set in the 1960`s `Heartbeat` a few years back...
I headed down over the border on the 175 mile drive on my own with mate Jason not well, and only 2 other Scots made the weekend...

Goathland...

Harry Potter star...

The Gathering was the usual format of folk arriving Friday evening to the Bunkhouse/campsite and those that needed refreshments taking advantage of the local refreshments, meeting new faces and relaxing...

Exposure Lights pint...

1am and last orders...

Still time for some fun...

Somehow we managed to cycle back to Camp fat... -:)

coastkid & saltyman...

Bunkhouse early doors...

All got a bit blurry by the time we played this game hanging on the wall...

Time to retire with bottle...

Saturday...
Riding at 10.30am and out onto the North Yorkshire Moors and it was a stunning day with clear skies and cool Autumn air...

Forest Bothy...

After a cafe stop it was back over the moors...

Along with local rider Mark who was helping out Guiding riding Gil`s steel Jones SS 29er, was Si riding a Salsa Fargo like what i now own while he waits to get his fatbike built.
Hats off to him for riding it over the next trail showing what these bikes can do in the hands of a good rider...

The famous Drove Road called `The Blue Man`...

It was a workout and hard going but i thought it was ace as it showed what fat bikes can do on terrain they were never designed for.
We then crossed what is believed to be one of the best preserved sections of Roman Road in Britain...

And a steep descent...

Returning for a pint at Goathland...

After cooking dinner it was along to the pub for a couple of pints..

Sunday...
8am -3C ...

Packed up we drove a few miles over the Moors...

Going to be a cracking day...

As we headed...

To the coast...

For the usual Sunday half day chilled out ride...

This lunar looking landscape was created by dumping of slag - waste from mining nearby...

Riding about and having a laugh...

A rather splendid moustache...

...

Chilling...

Onto the coast to ride east to Whitby...

Whitby
Whitby is somewhere i have never visited but have read about being famous for the home of Captain Cook, and a famous Victorian Resort.
It was absolutely stunning, so much of its original architecture has survived and it is as busy today as in its hey day. The fish and chips were amazing and like the pub at Goathland puts Scottish Shops to shame...

Steam powered bus...

With chain final drive...

The Towns famous son...

Landrover ice cream van had arrived on the beach...

Time for a cycle around the town...

The very steep `Donkey Road` up to the Abby Ruins...

Abbey...

Back to the cars along the beach and past that old Landy ice cream van...

Playing tag on the beach...

And sadly time to head our separate ways back to homes all over the UK...

Another sticker added to the pugsley...

Next fatbike Gathering will be `Forth Fat` in April 2014 here at North Berwick in East Lothian,

On the `Firth of Forth` ... get it? -:)
I am organising it and will post dates once all arrangements are made...

Thanks to Gil and his mates for organising and guiding and making it happen.
