Return of the Sea Haar

The East Coast Sea Harr drifted in and out of North Berwick last week for a few days...

Harr as it is known on the Scottish east coast is a coastal fog. which is created as cooler sea air meets warmer air inland, it can move in and out like a fog bank very quickly.
It can create amazing light as the sun tries to burn through the swirling drifting mist...
A mile inland it can be roasting hot, yet here on the coast enveloped by harr...

Navigation is not easy with sometimes very little visible distance and it is hard to predict how far you have travelled. Distant landmarks appear and disappear in the mist.

I love cycling in Sea Haar, like your in your own wee world...

I went down to North Berwick after work last week with the Surly Moonlander for a wee cycle...

With the West Links engulfed in the mist there was no golf being played so i made the most of the opportunity to ride along the sandy single track above the coastline alongside the Links with out interrupting any golf being played - remember the ancient game invented here on Scotland's east coast was played long before the bicycle was conceived...

I shot some film with the Go Pro Camera on the chest mount. Usually i do no like films with one camera angle but this film shows how much coastal cycling we have here in East Lothian. I usually do this single track as a night ride in winter to avoid interrupting golf so its nice to get the chance to film here in daylight - well kind of daylight!. The film is edited as the 2 miles of single track was too long for a film.
