Lockdown Cycle Pt58; Sled Hill and ROC bunker visit...

The Royal Observer Corps Post and Garvald we have both visited many times. It is the only open one of 3 remaining posts in East Lothian, North Berwick Post is welded shut and Cockburnspath Post is locked and privately owned.  You can check back through the Cold War and ROC labels on the Blog to read more, or watch the film from a few days before this visit on a visit with a friend in the Jeep as more info on that film.

Just as good as a look at the bunker is the trail over Sled Hill, a lovely old disused road that was probably abandoned from use with its steep tight hairpin bend. It was very muddy through the wood with recent forestry work but the road was scraped after and this now a lovely dry trail...

Lockdown Cycle Pt 57; Hillfoot trails

Another lovely high pressure day weather with big sky views so we made the most of the dry trails and rode around the Hillfoots west of Garvald...

Cold enough for a light snow shower last night up here, though it was disappearing as the sun came up...

Old roads long since used can still be followed in Spring before the foliage grows...

Lockdown Cycle Pt56; Tractor time at JMCP!

Friend Chris met up for a wee cycle and catch up and we did a loop around JMCP, good to catch up and his first beachride for a year with previous lockdown restrictions, and good to see the John Muir Green Surly Moonlander I bought last year and traded on with him for a smaller fitting bike that suited me more...

With high tide midday we stuck mostly to the woods and dunes...

A rummage at Bullet Hill turned up as usual a hand full of WW1 .303 bullet rounds...

Belhaven Bridge - bridge to nowhere this now...

A good catch up and were both looking forward to more rides as thinks open up across Scotland soon...

Lockdown Cycle Pt 55; Sandstorm out in Belhaven Bay!

Another high pressure day as a real cold blast came in from the Artic with strong Northerly winds gusting 30mph and things were a bit lively out on the coast!...

With no one out in such winds I enjoyed the space to myself...

Out at JMCP for a wee solo and after riding through the woods to the west I cut side on across the bay leaning into the wind as sand was whipped up and danced across the bay...

From out at the point I came flying down the beach hardly needing to pedal!...

A fun hour out to stretch the legs,

Lockdown Cycle Pt54; Easter Friday - Aberlady Bay Sub wrecks visit...

Easter Friday and we went a Cycle out to the sub wrecks with G`s son and girlfriend who were keen to go see the wrecks but not keen to walk out so we pack bikes into the vans and parked at the closest point at Quarry corner (Gala Hill) west of Gullane village

Despite a westerly headwind we were soon out across the Reserve and onto the bay just on low tide...

With not many pics taken today lets go straight to the film, which is a bit of the history on the subs...

Lockdown Cycle Pt 53; JMCP low tide...

Out again a cycle around JMCP and friend Lucy came out and as usual these days we kept our distance as the lockdown continues...

Hardly seen another soul being midweek...

Davie rocked up going in the opposite direction so after a few minutes chat we headed our separate ways...

A nice wee cycle and catch up...
