Indian Summer; Nice while it lasted...

Wikipedia; "An Indian summer is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs in the autumn. It refers to a period of considerably above normal temperatures, accompanied by dry and hazy conditions, usually after there has been a killing frost. Depending on latitude and elevation, the phenomenon can occur in the Northern Hemisphere between late September and mid November."

Well we did get one in the last week of September just after the Autumn equinox, and after 7 weeks of pretty much poor weather,
and though short it was lovely, very warm temperatures of 22 Celsius for this time of year and amazing sunrises...

But we never got any amazing long sunsets, instead the sun always disappeared quickly behind a cloud bank to the west...

Autumn has arrived now though, most of the trees have still to turn and show there autumn gold but the geese have arrived for the winter...

Pink Footed geese and Greylag geese arrive here in there thousands from their summer grounds in Iceland. There noise and presence is quite a sight...

With no sunset to film i had to improvise for an ending for a wee film of riding one of many routes down onto Gullane beach, the light was fantasic on the beach,

Song is `Brooks was here` by Thomas Newman and Hollywood Studio Symphony...

The spell of good weather was not to last and it threw it down over the weekend, A Sunday morning cross country ride with friends was cancelled due to torrential rain, though i did get out in the affy when it went off for a beachride to Peffersands...
And a low tide revealed some of the wreck of the SS Poderosa...

Onto the mud flats exposed by the low tide...

And straight across the bay here, in front is a wildfowl hide, built in the stones...

It was hard going across here, approx 5 revolutions of peddling for a metre forward!...but the pugsley got across!, amazing where this bike can go...

Onto an island of green slimey weed, almost neon in colour...

And across this...

The only WW2 Coastal defence Anti Glider Pole still standing upright on the East Lothian coastline...

So this must have all been sand here 70 years ago...

back home through the woods, the ferns have died back for the year now, leaves still to turn on many trees, but wont be long...

Roll on Autumn and winter, Most people feel the opposite about this time of year, i love it, Autumn gold, crispy leave covered trails, quieter beaches, amazing sunrises/sunsets, cool evening nightriding with friends, cool enough for the fire on too... and now working winter hours 8am-3pm means more time not working, ace!

  2. Even though we ride a few 100 miles apart, I'm always amazed at how much alike the coast & terrain that you ride is to what we have up here...even the green slime! Culbin has loads of those anti-glider poles too.
Know what you mean about autumn & winter, it is a great time of year & I love the quieter riding with less folk about
