Airshow Day - Trail Ride and Plane Spotting...

The Annual Airshow here at East Fortune, the Sea Haar and low cloud burned away Friday Evening. Up for work 4.30am it was a clear sunrise, and a clear morning on the cycle home...

As usual i did a trail ride in the morning with friends and then parked up to watch the aircraft. Would be a 20 mile loop through woods, along above the coast, then west along some of the River Tyne trail, then climb up to a good view point on Pencraig Hill overlooking the former RAF East Fortune Airfield and Museum of Flight
Derek and Richie turned up. Along with my SURLY KramPug, Derek`s singlespeed Pugsley and  Richie`s Jones made a trio of singlespeeds...

Shot for a shot of each bike as we rode to the coast...

Bling!, Richie`s steel Jones, same Truss fork as i have sitting at home...

I don`t like these bars on regular Fat Bikes and MTBs but they work with the Jones bike, the frame, bars and fork all work together, an ace ride...

Richie and Derek like the KramPug concept too!

Along the Secret Trail...

The SS Division breach the Primary coastal defences, and moved inland -:)

Along some of the River Tyne trail...

Special Blue ones...

Harvest time will be starting in the next month...

Up to Pencraig...

Traprain Law had a lot of spectators up top...

Gav and Colin were already up there already...

The silence was shattered by the Typhoon that as always defies gravity with what they can do...

Here is some film shot on the compact... awesome plane!, totally bonkers what they can do...

If your PC/phone does not show this try; http://www.flickr.com/photos/coastkid71/9391716982/

Then a plane not seen for a few years, this one is Spanish and used in the classic `Battle of Britain` film
The Messerschmitt Bf 109...

Then the skies echoed of my favourite engine noise as a Hawker Hurricane appeared and put on a great display. We do not often see a Hurricane  put through its paces and the pilot gave it the beans...

A film on Youtube someone posted of the Hurricane, a lot of crowd noise but listen to 1 minute in to that engine...

A P-51 Mustang, It became prob the best fighter of WW2 with its range, though it took the fitting of the RR Merlin to give it the performance it needed...
Here is another film that has been posted on Youtube from the show...

A heavy rain shower delayed the show and we went round to shelter under trees, and talk bikes as usual...

SS Pug. This bike was/is? a record holder of a Singlespeed record for the Iditabike in Alaska, now it lives here in East Lothian -:)
Wheels are swappable to change gear ratios as the design was originally intended for, one of the coolest features of the Pugsley

Back to watch the show continue and here are some pics by friend Colin, my camera is useless to get far away pics of planes...

This Cub is local and flies from Archiefield...

The Hurricane again...

Don`t often see a Fairey Swordfish up here, Torpedo underneath, hard to imagine taking off a carrier in one of these in the rough North Sea and flying towards the mighty German Battleship Tirpitz against all those guns, but they did...

I will post up more from youtube as films appear...
With the show almost over we rode down to my house...

RAF Blue, White,  Red... -:)

And a lap of the race track...

Great day out...
