Accidently rode 51 miles today with the SURLY Pugsley and `Fat` BOB YAK trailer in tow!,
But my big ride on that bike and trailer pales into insignificance to the guy i went to meet on the beach to support and guide today along a small part of East Lothians Coastline, a tiny blink in his journey...
I rode to Yellowcraig to meet coastwalker Christian, who is walking around our British coastline, that is around 6500 miles - non stop, to raise money for homelessness of ex-soldiers, men who have went to fight for better things for people who live here in the UK and other countries around the world, and have had a lot of things we take for granted taken from them.
Things people like myself will probably never experience or understand... Christian has an amazing story to tell. i only shared 2 hours of our coastline with him but we chatted about life and stuff and it was a real eye opener to my comfy world...
Christian has already raised £92,000 for homeless soldiers
I was real busy at work Thursday so could not take the day off but would have loved to done the whole East Lothain coast with Christian. He really enjoyed discovering Seacliff Harbour and Tantallon in the sea Haar as he neared North Berwick,
I finished work at midday and rode to Yellowcraig hoping to me catch up with Christian. I met a couple of walkers and asked if they had passed a guy with a Bergen rucksack, they said yes but gave me the wrong name place for where they saw him, so after some miss named area info (He was at Gullane Point, not Aberlady point!) i rode ahead, so no one and continued to Gosford Bay thinking `he cannot be this far ahead`, so i back tracked to the subs, got a facebook update that he had just visited the WW2 XT class submarine wrecks i knew he must be close by ahead, then after a waist deep scary ride through the incoming Peffer Estuary eventully and back to Gosford Bay i parked up and within 5 minutes 2 walkers came around Green Craigs Point.
I rode across and met Christian, and James who was walking with him having had his friend taxi on Christians Bergen, so i would not have to haul it in the Fat BOB trailer i brought along.
It was great to speak to Christian as we rolled/walked along our coastline here in East Lothian.
I have to say the guy is a real trooper, and a real nice guy, he is self supported, he pays for his own food and beer, and has been a pleasure to guide along our coast from Gosford Bay to Cockenzie.
If you walk, cycle, or run on the coast then you will know how big a challenge Christian is undertaking, 11 miles a day on average, big respect to him, i cannot wait to read his book he says he will write when he returns to Blackpool where he started...
Of course Christian had to have a go on the Pugsley and was impressed had the big grin as everyone who has a ride on the beach on a pug does! -:)
Along the way people would stop or be waiting to meet Christian, many of them Vets too, great support and camaraderie between them...
The support and likes on facebook for his journey is amazing, over 1000+ likes on many pictures...
Many OS maps to go yet...
Irn Bru stop...
I wish him all the best on his journey of discovery... Life is Good -:)
Good to see Christian met up with an ambulance crew in Port Seton before heading into the 'Pans!
