What an amazing summer it has been and still only July -:)
Still no heavy rain in 6 weeks despite a weather forecast of thunderstorms.
A sea Haar came in last night.
Today at work we were engulfed in Haar that blew across the hill in the light easterly breeze...
Sea Haar is the Scottish name for an East Coast mist which usually occurs when cold sea air meets warmer land temperatures, often it drifts inland and back out to sea in a light breeze usually during warm conditions like this heat wave we are having and in springtime when land temperatures start to rise. It is very cooling and so nice to work in. I love it for cycling on the coast. often it is not great for filming or pictures so black and white is best.
This film by friend Jason captures the Haar...

I hoped the Haar would still be in after work but it cleared out off shore into the Forth leaving a strange overcast sky. Down to North Berwick and i rode east along the coast.
A bald rear SURLY Larry tyre that has done over 3000 miles has done its tour of duty, need to refit the Nate tyres...
Offshore the Bass Rock appeared out of the retreating Haar...
Parched grass...
Sky is clearing and getting brighter...
Great how much fun you can have in a mile of coastline single track trail above the coast around the East Links to Canty Bay...
Google Earth map of a short but fun ride...
A bit overgrown keeps the speed down...
Down across the rocks...
And old fence from when sheep grazed on the links here...
And onto the sand at Canty Bay...
The sand here is different to the west and east beach sand at North Berwick, larger particles, be good Links Golf fairway bunker sand -:)
Amazing colours in the evening light....
Too high tide to continue, and better on the big Moonlander from here and with grippy Five Ten shoes, leave that for another ride...
Strange sky with the Haar offshore...
Mid week so a couple of ciders from the supermarket on the way home. Be harvest time starting in a month...
Here is a harvest picture from here many years ago, check the hay stacks! -:)

The next time I am up by Lake Superior visiting family, and I think they do have similar to the sea Haar, I will mention it to them. "Ah, you have some sea Haar today, eh?" Might have to call it lake Haar. The Open was great as usual! Single track following along golf course...first I have heard of that. It does look like a fun play ground you folks have there.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of tracks that go right through golf courses that are legal to cycle through - with respect to give way to the golfers, that i have not posted on the blog as a herd of bicycles could cause problems, this evening this course was quiet so did not have to wait for people to play through.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed watching the Open rlove2bike! amazing event, amazing history...
