Summer Jeepin...

Mid July, and warm weather is here for a few days finally!, out in the Jeep this weekend, and first I did a quick bit maintenance and replaced the fan belt as meant to do it last week when I did the oil, filter service,

It`s an easy job to do and having done loads on Golf course machinery It just took several minutes...

The tensioner bolt on top is slackened with a half inch ratchet and spanner, then the lower larger but and bolt, using a phone you can take a pic of it to estimate the socket/spanner size...

Turns out it is a larger 11/16, oh and I have no idea what the white cable not used on the wiring loom is for. probably from the original 24volt set up before it was converted to 12 volt...

And the belt was due to be changed as perished, I knew this when I got the Jeep but been a bit lazy leaving it to now...

I have two replacement belts. one from the local Garage was £35, the other-a Dunlop was only £6 from Dallas Autos Jeep specialists here in the UK,

I fitted the more expensive belt seeing as I had paid all that more for it, and after checking the 3 bearings on the pulleys were not rough or had free play I tensioned the belt with a Jemmy bar and nipped up the top nut and bolt, then the lower one and job done...

Heading out a drive today along the coast and i tried another set up with the windscreen as although real warm it was also windy...

I folded the screen down later to do some film, an Open Day on a local estate gave me the chance to leave past the remaining buildings of POW Camp 16 which by 1945 had nearly 4000 Germans, some of who stayed here after the war, one a friend of my mum and dad passed away only a couple of years ago,
All these men were the some of the lucky ones who surrendered to British, American or Canadians and they all faired a lot better than those surrendering to Russians and were sent back east to their Goolags...

A cycle at Tyninghame with friends,

Orchid in flower, summer is here!, mid June and weather has been mixed but the odd day is a belter and today we met Phil and Anne, up on holiday , and along with Craig later once he was free for more a social catch up after the last year or so than to cycle,  we all brought stoves and parked up an hour or two at Willowbrae point and had a brew and a biccy and it was nice to relax and catch up with friends...

Midweek Cycle; back on the coast...

Been a real busy last 5 or 6 weeks with work,  2 Scottish Open`s and a lot of hard work with the wet weather and the early/late hours, though we were rewarded with a lot of overtime - that is saved for a future long term toy i have always wanted...

So the blog has been posting previous rides that were scheduled...
Back onto regular working hours of early starts and afternoon finishes and after split shifts for several weeks it`s great to get out and about in the afternoons again, despite the showery weather,
July has been recorded as the wettest here on record, and by August 13th we had exceeded July`s rain fall!, one day we had 30mm of rain in under 12 hours, that is nuts!,

So with the trails now a bit muddy away from the coast and many seriously overgrown with grass and stinging weeds as seen in some previous posts last month i`m just cycling on the coast now until the main harvest kicks in, the other evening after work i headed down to Yellowcraig and a receding tide, to cycle along to Archerfield beach, where i had a look at the two small caves as been a while since i have been in them...

The steps someone made a few years ago are still there on the westerly cave but the caves are both filling up now with drifting sand...

Same with the easterly cave,  no one has recorded evidence of why the wall was built at this cave, who by,  or for what purpose...

Back on the bike and a cycle across the sands and then some beachcombing on foot though did not find anything to take home...

Heading back to the van and the usual weather patterns of the last 6 weeks-blues skies in one direction...

And a heavy downpour coming in the other direction...

Midweek Cycle; Field tracks...

`Heatwave` the radio said this week and they have not been wrong, been roasting and Thursday was over 25 Degrees Celsius,  i went an hours cycle at around 9,30pm once things started to cool down (Slightly, There are loads of dry access tracks through the local fields this now allowing a few different views and i linked up a few fields for a short loop...

Light easterly breeze, just enough to turn the turbines...

Back home and although 11pm, there was still light in the sky and no stars were out yet!
No need for a fire to keep warm but it`s always nice to fire up the chiminea anyway and sit out until midnight...
