A previous nights heavy rain has firmed up the sand on the dunes so it was down to Peffersands for a spot of dune surfing before the fast incoming high tide would swallow the run out onto the beach...

Tide was coming in at quite a rate!
Through the newer low dunes and the paths have again been covered by drifting sands. Stabilised with the Marram grass growing through securing them, these dunes continue to grow...
Then up to the big dune...

Another day of high pressure and i met with Chris for a beachride at Tyninghame to ride the dunes at peffersands. Nice E Type Jag in the car park...
I stalled climbing up behind the big dunes and stalling Chris he took a wee tumble lol...
Chris was riding a Surly Moonlander he had just bought used and was enjoying it...

then along to ride the dunes south of the puffer estuary, dunes whose sandy paths have only been created in the last few years from the growing dunes being created here with drifting sand held in place by the Marram grass...

I do enjoy this time of year when the nights are growing shorter rapidly and you have to get a move on after work to get out for a daylight ride-esp if you want to do some filming. Motivation to ride is easy as your racing the sunset,
After commuting home i loaded the old Pugsley into the van and within 10 mins i was unloaded and ready to ride.
Not riding to the beach there is no need for specific cycling clothes, work clothes are fine, just a swap to my Salomon boots, and a Merino base layer under a T shirt.
5pm and no parking charges after 4pm now were on winter hours!...
Down to Ravensheugh and the beach was deserted, perfect...
After the 40mph+ gales yesterday the dunes at Peffersands were rock hard on the top and soft on the slopes, and the beach blasted with logs and grass humps exposed.
I had one plan for this ride, head for the dunes!

Been a while since i rode the trails through the dunes west of Gullane Point. The dunes are on Aberlady Nature Reserve, but it is perfectly legal to cycle on the paths there. And what a suprise to find what used to be an indistinct path in places along the top of the dunes above the shore line has been covered this winter with blown sand and a good path walked out along it`s entire lenght!. For the first time i have known you can ride a 4" tyre fatbike it`s entire lenght. When i had the big 5" tyre Surly Moonlander there was a few stoppies along the top on the bigger Fatbike and a real struggle on the 4" tyre bikes in places,

After Friday`s baltic cold strong southerly wind Saturday was calm and warm!, end of the day i had to wring out my Buff, first warm ride of the year :)
I love it out here cycling and walking through the dunes and the WW2 Anti invasion tank blocks which were constructed here in August in 1940 as part of the `Coastal Crust` defenses...
German Invasion looked certain if the Luftwaffe could destroy the RAF. None of this was ever tested thankfully, and i think makes a great memorial today to those whe defended our country...
Wonder how many million tons of `War crete` was poured to make the defences that line the UK coastline?..

I rode it non stop and did a non stop film with the Go Pro chest mounted.. I try not to do films like this as i like to break up the films to keep them interesting, but this trail will be an option at Forth Fat on the Saturday when we ride east from the midget Sub wrecks. Its a sweet trail...
