Cycle to the Lighthouse... Pt 3

 

Onto the huge expanse of rock slabs and with small barnacles giving loads of safe grip we rolled around across the the smooth surface, formed from Lava and where eroded with sea and weather pillars rise up like a small model of somewhere like Montana or Moab with the back drop of big sky and distant rolling clouds, well not really but it's as good as that gets around here!...

A few more miles more to do to reach the Lighthouse...

Cycle to the Lighthouse... Pt 2

Continuing along the coast from Dunbar to Barnes Ness, and our Bikes set up on 100mm wide rims and 4.8" Schwalbe Jumbo Jim tyres - still the widest options available again proving to make light work of the loose rocks and gave great traction on the rock slabs. Both bikes were running 4 psi front, 5 psi rear tyre pressures and being set up Ghetto home made tubeless made for no pinch flats as we rode up and down some sharp edges through the cycle,

Cycle to the Lighthouse... Pt 1

 

It has been fun rediscovering the coast around Dunbar since moving house, slowing down a bit instead of just passing through on the John Muir Way trail, be it to the west around Hohn Muir Park, or as today along the coast to the east of the town, this afternoon with an earlier finish at work and G off today we cycled along to Barnes Ness riding nearly the whole way below the golf course and enjoyed the challenging rocks, easier today being dry with the strong wind, but still a challenge in the windy gusts to keep you on your toes...

Midweek Cycle; Beach and Bales...

 

Midweek and grey but dry skies on the coast when we went a wee cycle after work in the early evening,

With a low tide it was fun to ride some coast and harvested fields and trails through JMP woods to mix things up...

Onto trails and a baled field, a rare thing this year due to a lack of straw from such a dry Spring, and a wee loop around...

Through the ace wee section of sandy single track lined with Ferns as it winds through the Pine woods...

Midweek Cycle; Another quick fix racing the sunset...

Nights are drawing in...

Harvest has been and gone in a few weeks of wet weather and for cycling it just never happened, 

But a lot of other things never happened this year due to weather and the Covid Pandemic...

That's life, and you just reset and move on and adjust doing what you can and cannot...

Getting an hour cycle on the coast after work before sunset is a great way to put the day at work behind you and relax and soak up the coastal views away from folk out in a deserted low tide Bay,

Away from all the worlds nonsense of rushing about, Covid infested shops and pubs and Restaurants...

Cannot think of anything worse I want to be at this now, yet the Government News, and Public seem hell bound on going to these places, and people are flapping about going on holiday and getting away for Xmas.. what is wrong with people?, this obsession with getting out and spending money?..

Stuff that!... glad to do our own thing and escape away from people and stay safe...

Out across the Mussel beds at low tide in John Muir Park is a safe place to be...

EL MTB #13 JMW - Hedderwick Bay Pt 2 of 2

Continuing along The John Muir Way the trail winds around a ruin of a WW2 Searchlight and past the remains of more crumbling concrete of a larger Observation Post at the Hedderwick Burn, you will need to go look for that if interested - just before the wooden bridge over the burn,

Coastal erosion is visible here as the sandy cliffs have been washed out, detours take you away from the edges like here...
